Grab that bag, and the box, and your dog – then chuck the whole lot into the Jaguar XF Sportbrake. Now, first things first. 'Sportbrake' is simply a fancy term for 'estate'. As such, cargo capacity is a useful 550-litres; increasing to 1,675-litres when the rear seats are folded flat. That is comparable to the BMW 5 Series Tourer – an arch rival – but far less than the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate. Furthermore, this load-lugger is slightly longer and has more headroom than the familiar XF saloon – and it is likely to inherit its sibling's fantastic handling, smooth ride, and solid build. We should know for certain within months.

The Jaguar XF Sportbrake has other virtues to excite big box movers. The tailgate, for starters, has a soft-touch closing function to avoid slamming – and powerful LEDs illuminate the area behind the car when the boot is open. Perfect for night-time load- lugging. Furthermore, there is a three-section panel within the boot to store small items, and an under-floor tray protects valuables. An optional electric tailgate completes the package. This beauty is clearly a long way from Jaguar's previous estate, the unloved X- Type. It is also further proof that the company is now a mighty force. Rivals best take note.
