The new Mercedes-Benz C180 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY SE estate is a premium quality hold-all that consistently excels. Its strengths are numerous, but importantly in this 'practical wing' of the compact executive sector it carries a highly credible 1500-litres of luggage. That's premium quality executive luggage, of course.

Now, being a Mercedes-Benz this practical workhorse has a few tricks up its sleeve. These include the 'easy-pack' tailgate that is not only electrically operated, but can be held open in virtually any position. There is also an 'opening limiter' system that reduces tailgate travel to prevent scuffing low garage ceilings. Very clever too.

The new Mercedes-Benz C180 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY SE estate is also available with an optional £170 'easy-pack load-securing kit'. This, according to the German manufacturer, is designed to 'provide endless cargo carrying permutations'. The system includes two cargo rails that hold items in place, telescopic bars that allow the boot to be segmented, anchoring points, and retractable belt fasteners. That lot could come in very handy.

Handling-wise the new Mercedes-Benz C180 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY SE is everything a motorist could reasonably expect from a luxury estate. This means the steering is pin sharp, the ride sumptuous, and both the manual and automatic transmissions are smooth and responsive. This premium load lugger also hits 62mph in 9.8 seconds, accelerates to 138mph, and returns a combined average of 42.8mpg.

So, let's consider the price of this robustly constructed, Euro NCAP five-star safety rated estate. According to Motoring.co.uk's new car database, the C-Class estate is available with 'buy safe' sellers from only £25,535. Not bad considering its versatility, excellent handling, and envy inducing prestige.
