The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is available as a stunning saloon, an enormous estate, a curvaceous coupe, and a perfectly proportioned cabriolet. What a choice. Now, each of these versions have their comparative merits, so let's saddle-up and explore the wonderful world of E-Class motoring.

The most familiar E-Class shape is, perhaps, the saloon. This sleek status symbol oozes style and is one of those 'I've made it” cars. My favourite is the E350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY as this is an excellent compromise between performance and economy. Power comes from a 3.0-litre 265hp diesel engine that propels its executive driver to 62mph in 6.6 seconds, and averages an impressive 45mpg. So, if you want saloon style, effortless performance, and fuel frugality the E350 could be your perfect companion.

Alternatively, load lugging motorists may prefer the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate as this has more storage capacity than a semi-detached house. To be precise, it can hold 695-litres of luggage with the rear seats in place, and 1950-litres with them folded into the sumptuous upholstery. Further noteworthy features include the electric tailgate that can be operated from the driver's seat, via key fobs, and by a switch on the boot door. There is also a sliding luggage cover that automatically conceals your swanky executive cargo.

Now, would you like an E-Class with a sporty image? Roll out the new Mercedes-Benz E- Class Coupé. This CLK replacement is one of the finest grand tourers on the market, and comes in SE and Sport trim. Both models have agility control suspension that changes the response of the shock absorbers according to the conditions. The latter variant also has speed sensitive power steering and is firmer. All this finery is wrapped-up in a stunning pillar-less design that only hints and its exceptional capabilities.

The final option is the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet. This beauty has a stylish fabric roof that can be opened or closed, at up to 20mph, in only twenty seconds. This complements the aircap wind deflector that is fitted to the top of the windscreen. This electrically powered device channels air away from the cabin to reduce turbulence. Used in conjunction with the airscarf neck warming system and the driving experience becomes tremendously cosseting.

So, there we go. The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class range offers motorists four distinctive choices. All have there pros/cons, but all benefit from the excellent handling, confidence inspiring safety features, and prestige associated with the marque.
