The new Mercedes-Benz E350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Sport estate's storage capacity is so vast that is makes a cargo ship look short on space. To be precise, this flashy lifestyle statement holds 695-litres of luggage with the rear seats in place, and up to 1950-litres with the seats folded flat into the luxurious interior. Mmm, might even be enough space for a party.

This monstrous storage space is also versatile and user friendly. Features include an electric tailgate that can be operated via key fobs, from the driver's seat, and by a switch mounted on the boot door. In addition, the E350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Sport is available with a two-piece folding floor that can be moved to accommodate tall items, plus a labour saving automatically sliding luggage cover.

Now, the Mercedes-Benz E350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Sport can clearly hold a considerable amount of weight – but does it have the power to shift it? Well, indeed it does. The 3.0-litre 261bhp V6 diesel engine propels its luggage loving owner to 62mph in 6.7 seconds. Top speed is 155mph, which is highly creditable for a large vehicle that returns a combined average of 44.1mpg.

Handling-wise, the new Mercedes-Benz E350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Sport is everything a motorist could reasonably expect from a luxury estate. The steering is sharper than a needle dipped in vinegar, the ride smoother than a sheet of glass, and the cabin more luxurious than a five-star hotel. The E-Class is clearly one of those vehicles to drive just for the fun of it, whether you effortlessly cruise along or charge between the apexes.

So, let's breach the filthy subject of money. This highly commendable vehicle has a list price of £39,820. Whereas this is a chunky pile of cash, the E-Class is worth the premium as it is one of the most prestigious, capable, and practical estate cars on the market.
