The Saab 9-5 Saloon offers five turbocharged engines; 1.6, 2.0 and 2.8 petrol and two 2.0 litre diesels. The Saab 9-5 comes with two suspension set-ups, and the one you get depends on the engine you’ve chosen and whether you’ve opted for two- or four-wheel drive. Fuel economy and CO2 figures are respectable; the lower-powered diesel is rated in the 19% company car tax band.
The Saab 9-5 has an even longer wheelbase than the Vauxhall Insignia. The result is a cabin of truly enormous dimensions, although the sides of the roof curve down quite a way before the door openings start, so you have to really stoop when getting in to avoid banging your head. The boot is large and the rear seats fold down.
The Saab 9-5 comes with cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, Bluetooth and leather seats. Meanwhile, upgrading from the Vector SE model to the Aero brings electrically adjustable seats, a host of sporty styling touches, the sportier suspension and bi-xenon headlights.
