Grab your chequebook. The Skoda Fabia SE Plus could be parked on your driveway from only £11,945. This new trim level sits one place above the SE and below the top-of the-range Elegance. As such this capable supermini has plenty of toys. These include the four-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, electric front windows, MP3 stereo, leather gear knob, and the trip computer. Want more? How about the air-conditioned glove box?

Now, let's not laugh. Keeping the contents of the glove box cool is more important than it sounds. Inside mine, for example, lives a bright orange cat that keeps the kids quiet. He likes to stay chilled on hot days. Furthermore, a cooled glove box is the perfect place to store refreshments. Car cooked sandwiches are rather unpleasant, even compared to melted toy kitten. This feature can even prevent parking change turning to molten metal.

Complementing the air-con glove box - which is clearly the most important motoring gadget in the world - is a wide range of engines. To be precise, the new Skoda Fabia SE Plus is available with three refined 1.2-litre petrol engines. These produce 69, 86, and 105PS. The most powerful hits 62mph in 10.1 seconds and averages 53.3mpg. Not too bad. Diesel lovers choose from three 1.6-litre units, generating 75, 90, and 105PS. These all average 67.3mpg, so best choose the most powerful. This hits 62mph in 10.9 seconds.

The new Skoda Fabia SE Plus is the complete urban package. It is extremely practical, robustly constructed, good looking, comfortable, and handles nicely. This high-spec version is particularly appealing as it feels a 'step-up' on many of its competitors. It is excellent value for money and the perfect place to keep a bright orange cat. Good work.
