The new Volkswagen Beetle looks a lot more serious but still retains its charm without being too retro. The exterior has a wider stance and a lower less curvaceous roofline. The new Volkswagen Beetle will offer a range of engines including three petrol and a single diesel. The petrol line-up is made of a 1.2, 1.4 and 2.0-litre TSI units, while the one diesel choice is a 1.6-litre TDI with 103bhp.

The interior of the new Volkswagen Beetle is extremely retro with the instrumentation large and clear, the body-coloured inserts and big glovebox lid similar to the original old style Beetle. The vase for flowers has gone in its masculine transformation too.

There is more space in the new car, the boot has grown by a useful 30% with 310 litres of space available (905 litres with the seats folded); that seats-up figure is just 40 litres shy of a three-door Golf's.

Prices for the new Volkswagen Beetle have yet to be announced but VW is quoting a range price from £15,000 to £25,000.
