The Chevrolet Lacetti 1.6 SX is the sibling of Top Gear's old 'reasonably priced car'. Its cost is actually very reasonably indeed, as this small family workhorse could be tearing around your test track from only £12,950. Now, let us be realistic. Despite its TV fame the Lacetti is as 'sporty' as a truck. The steering feels lifeless, it leans through corners, and the overall feel is unremarkable. So, this is a vehicle for cruising from A to B at a 'relaxed' pace. It is a no-nonsense mile-muncher that gets the job done without bells and whistles.

The Chevrolet Lacetti 1.6 SX has a reasonable specification. Features include: power steering, central locking, alloy wheels, air conditioning, and an immobiliser. Options include metallic paint for £360. Basic then, but okay. It is a similar story with the petrol engine. The 1.6-litre manual version produces 109ps. This propels Stig impersonators to 62mph in 10.7 seconds. Average fuel consumption is a tolerable, but mediocre, 39.7mpg.

The Chevrolet Lacetti's cabin is slightly plain, but functional. There is plenty of space for four people and the boot holds 275-litres worth of Top Gear DVDs. Fold the rear seats flat and capacity increases to 1,045-litres – enough to pack the Stig costume too, but less than the Ford Focus. The interior certainly feels 'built to a price', but the price includes a five year manufacturer warranty. So, not the best car available but good value for money.
