What is it?
The Peugeot 3008 is a practical, family-focussed, crossover class vehicle with fuel efficient engines and plenty of equipment. One immediately obvious strength – which elevates it above most competitors – is the split tailgate that makes it easier to slide large, awkward, items into the boot. A kid's bike or pram, perhaps.
Furthermore, the boot has a split level floor that enables motorists to separate fragile items. Capacity is 512-litres to the base of the parcel shelf rising to 1,604-litres (to the roof with the rear seats flat). The latter eclipses many traditional estates.
It has other practical features too. The front passenger seat folds flat to increase load length to 2.62 metres, storage bins beneath the rear mats conceal valuables, and the centre console takes a 1.5-litre bottle. Plus, the rear tailgate serves as a picnic bench.
Engines and transmissions
The Peugeot 3008 incorporates a petrol and diesel engine, plus 6-speed manual and 6-speed auto transmission (with manual mode via a lever). Both have low fuel consumption to minimise expenditure at the pump, and low emissions to keep the price of road tax in check.
The 1.2 Puretech, 130hp, petrol engine (manual) propels motorists to 62mph in 10.8 seconds and – if teamed with energy saving 17” wheels rather than standard 18” - averages 57.6mpg and emits carbon at a rate of 115g/km. With 18” wheels, it hits 54.3mpg and 120g/km.
In contrast, the 1.6-litre BlueHDi, 120hp, S&S diesel versions – when teamed with 6-speed manual transmission – reach 62mph in 12 seconds and average 68.9mpg. Tailpipe carbon emissions are 108g/km.
This power plant can alternatively be specified with automatic transmission. Expect 0-62mph in 12.4 seconds. With energy saving 17” wheels, it returns 67.3mpg and carbon emissions are 109g/km. Standard 18” wheels ensure efficiency falls to 65.7mpg and 112g/km.
Trims and equipment
All engine and gearbox combinations can be teamed with Active and Allure trims. The Active has: air-conditioning, rear parking sensors, cruise control and tyre pressure monitor. The 3008 range as a whole also claimed a maximum, 5-star, Euro NCAP safety rating.
The Allure trim adds: satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, front parking sensors, reversing camera, head-up display, tinted rear windows and the premium, leather effect/black, seating.
