10 Best Affordable 7 Seat SUVs
The top ten cars that are stylish, spacious and exceptionally practical
10. Peugeot 5008
The new 5008 carries forth the nametag of the previous 5008 MPV which was pretty cumbersome and ugly, in all honesty. Thankfully, the new SUV model is the complete opposite. The 5008 is striking in its design and surprisingly luxurious on the inside. The cabin layout is well thought out and even with a family of 7 onboard, it doesn’t feel too cramped. The most economical model is the 1.5 BlueHDi model which will return you a superb 70 mpg while only putting out 105 g/km of CO2 which is almost unheard of for a car of this size. The 5008 is on sale now and prices start from £26,259.
9. KIA Sorento
KIA have really done themselves proud with the models launched over recent years. They’ve consistently provided cars that are enjoyable to own, drive and look at, all for prices that people can agree with. The onboard technology and comfort are great too, especially in the flagship Sorento. This is the biggest, most luxurious and best-equipped car in the KIA range and it’s an option that all families should certainly consider. There’s only one engine to choose from with the Sorento, which makes it easy. You get a 2.2-litre turbo diesel which is good for 47 mpg and will do 0-60 mph in 8.7 seconds, just in case you like taking your family on drag races. The Sorento is on sale now and prices start from £30,250
8. Land Rover Discovery Sport
The Discovery Sport was the car that filled the void that was left following the departure of the Land Rover Freelander and, for 2019, it has been given a comprehensive makeover to take it one step ahead of the rest of the pack. The whole interior has been updated and the Disco-Sport now contains high-tech touch screen functionality as well as new, intuitive operating software. Also, for the first time ever, the Discovery Sport is available as a mild-hybrid. The car will generate and save energy during deceleration and use at speeds below 11mph to get the car moving again. Interior space has been improved considerably now and the 5+2 setup is suitable to look after 7 adults in relative comfort. Then, when you need to move large objects, the seats can be flattened and a whole 1,800 litres of luggage capacity is made available. As the ‘Discovery’ part of the title would lead you to believe, this really is one of the most functional and practical cars on the road. What’s not to love? The new Discovery Sport is available to order now and prices start from £31,575.
7. Mitsubishi Outlander
We adore the Mitsubishi Outlander. It’s a super functional SUV that looks the part, with its big shiny chrome and black grille, while also delivering on key objectives as a family car. The interior is hard-wearing and child-proof while the wide front seats offer more than enough comfort to Mum and Dad. Driving is brilliantly refined and the Outlander has no problem whatsoever with ironing out road blemishes. Certain SUVs are marketed for their sporty handling and agility, whereas the Outlander prides itself on its sedate nature and calming atmosphere. The Outlander is available with a petrol engine or diesel engine in 7-seater form, and you’ll get 37.7 mpg for the petrol and 53 mpg for the diesel on the combined cycle. The Outlander is available now from £28,245.
6. Volvo XC90
Now we told you these would be affordable 7 seaters, but that’s a relative concept. The XC90 is on sale now from £52,235, which isn’t cheap but this a very high-quality luxurious car and it competes with other premium brands, which also aren't cheap. When you put the XC90 alongside the competition it actually offers good value. The XC90 is incredibly safe, ridiculously comfortable and an absolute joy to drive. It’s incredibly difficult to fault the XC90 or any of the XC range as a matter of fact. Ok, it might not have the badge-appeal of the Range Rover or a similarly sized Porsche, but that’s not a reason not to buy it. Only £3,000 separate the top level trims to the entry level, which means you won’t be hammering the options list to get the equipment you like for you and your family.
5. Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace
The Tiguan Allspace is marketed as a stand-alone car from the Tiguan, despite looking very similar, sharing the same engines and the same platform. As you might have guessed though, the Allspace has more… space, and 2 extra seats occupying that extra space. The Allspace is 215mm longer than the top-selling Tiguan but carries many of its desirable traits. The body shape is extended the roofline is more profound, but that’s pretty much it. A recipe for success and if you go down to your dealership and take one for a spin, we’re convinced you will agree. The Allspace is on sale now and prices start from a reasonable £30,295
4. Skoda Kodiaq
The Kodiaq is based on the exact same platform as the Tiguan Allspace, and it boasts a very similar engine lineup too. The differences are predominantly aesthetic. That means you’ll still get a massive 56mpg from the 2.0-litre TDi diesel engine, and the Kodiaq is available with the high-tech 4x4 system as well as all the advanced VAG onboard technology. The Kodiaq hits a significantly lower price point than any of its VAG siblings in this class of vehicle, with prices starting from £26,755 for the 7 seat model.
3. Nissan X-Trail
This is one of the best-known 7 seaters on the market, the Nissan X-Trail. The new X-Trail has managed to maintain the off-road prowess of the older, more rugged model, and blend it with a stylish and comfortable interior (that the old model lacked, in all honesty.) Thankfully, this new product offers a very well-rounded and utilitarian package which looks the business. In terms of economy, the 1.6 dCi diesel engine will return 55.4 mpg on motorway journeys, which is above average for this class. The X-Trail is on sale now and prices start from £29,935.
2. Hyundai Santa Fe
The Santa Fe sits at the top of the Hyundai range showing off every bit of technology and luxury they have to offer, which trickles down the model range into the smaller models. In a sensible and sophisticated way, the Santa Fe is a pretty good looking thing which will appeal to most family buyers. The inside is well thought out, with the rearmost seats being accessible with one press of a button, instead of a combination of lever pulls and twists like some other cars. At the front, entertainment is controlled by an 8-inch touchscreen but all vital controls use good old fashioned tangible dials. Simple. The Santa Fe is available from £33,450 and comes with a 5-year warranty and 5 free annual health checks.
1. SEAT Tarraco
SEAT’s biggest SUV ever comes in the form of their new Tarraco. It’s actually a reasonably good looking thing, considering cars of this size tend to be pretty cumbersome. The Tarraco might be one of the sportiest models out of all its competitors if that’s what you are looking for. Inside you’ve got a pretty welcoming interior which orientates around the massive 10.2-inch touch screen display which appears to float on the dashboard, which is a standard feature. You tend to get quite a lot included with each spec level on the Tarraco, which starts from £28,335- right in between the Skoda and Volkswagen competitors.
