5 Exciting Electric Cars to Buy in 2020

Mercedes-Benz had the first fully electrified model hitting showrooms in 2019 and the debut model is called the EQC. First of all, it’s a stunning looking thing which isn’t too in-your-face about being an electric car, but you can immediately tell that this car is from the future. The EQC is a mid-size SUV, similarly proportioned to the Mercedes GLC class. You can register your interest now for the EQC and you’ll get a super luxurious EV with a total electric range of around 450 kilometres, or 280 miles. The EQc is no slouch either, despite being a pretty sizeable and heavy car, it will still do 0-60 mph in just 5.1 seconds. Details are still few and far between in terms of spec’s and prices, but we’d anticipate a list price of around £60,000.
 

Already on the new 20 plate is the Audi e-tron. It’s understated and looks like another gorgeous vehicle from Audi’s SUV lineup, only under the bonnet lies a potent electric motor instead of a traditionally powered engine. One of the biggest selling points will be that the e-tron doesn’t really look like an electric car, which is great news for buyers who are making their first tentative steps into the electric market. Priced from £71,520 - slightly more than we expect from the Mercedes EQC. One of the most interesting changes is that the e-tron has ditched wing mirrors and replaced them with cameras. Seems excessive but it will appeal to tech-loving buyers and Audi promise it will be easy to get used to. The e-tron should be good for a claimed 241 miles and it doesn’t compromise on practicality as it will have a massive 605-litre boot.

Here’s one that we’re backing could become the best selling electric car on the market. MINI has released an electric version of their eternally popular hatchback. They haven’t changed much of the iconic design of the MINI, only that it now uses a solid front grille as the ventilation is no longer needed and this optimises aerodynamics.  On a single full battery, the electric MINI can achieve up to 144 miles of real world driving. This is good for an electric car of this quality.. The Electric MINI is on sale from £24,900.

KIA updated their solid-selling Soul EV in 2019 to keep up with competition from the likes of the Hyundai IONIQ and Nissan Leaf. The Soul offers a really reasonable solution for family buyers who want to switch to an electric car but they don’t want anything too expensive, too lightweight and too impractical. The Soul EV now has more defined and angular lines, making it seem less soft and bubbly and you could argue it commands a bit more respect than the previous model. KIA hasn’t confirmed the electric range just yet for the new model but we expect it to be at least 200 miles, a marked improvement over the current model. The old Soul EV starts from around £31,000 and we’d, therefore, expect the new model to be similarly priced if not slightly more expensive.

And last but certainly not least is the Porches Taycan. This is a car which was originally dubbed Porsche’s ‘Mission E’ but has since been gifted the name Taycan. This is a low slung 4 door EV that promises bags of performance and, naturally, exquisite levels of luxury. The Taycan is now in its final stage of testing and it looks likely that the Taycan will be on sale by the end of the year. The Taycan will be roughly the same size and width as the Tesla Model S, to give you an idea of scale, and it is likely to offer equally mind-blowing performance. It’s certainly one to keep an eye out for, although we might be anticipating a price tag the steep side of £100,000.
