8 Mind Blowing MOT Failures
Never underestimate the extent of human stupidity.
8. DIY Brake Pads
You’d think that brake pads, the things that slow your car down when you’re hurtling along the motorway, would be universally considered by consumers as something you probably shouldn’t cheap out on? Apparently not. The photo above shows DIY brake pads made of wood that were fitted to a Ford Transit.
7. Buckle Up
The image needs no explanation, really. Imagine thinking; “yeah, 6 staples should be enough to stop me flying through my windscreen.”
6. “It’s riding a bit firm”
Coil springs are used in suspension systems to provide bounce, neutralise shocks and maintain a constant ride height. The wooden alternative (pictured) might be environmentally sustainable, but that’s where the list of ‘pros’ expires.
5. Feeling a little worn out?
Brake discs are only really perishable if you’ve already let your brake pads perish.Discs have a much greater lifetime than pads, but if you don’t replace your pads on time, the metal-on-metal will score the disc and, after a while, wear it thin, as pictured...
4. Smashed rim
You could be forgiven for not noticing a buckled or cracked alloy, especially if the damage is on the inside, but you can’t not really notice a completely obliterated alloy, can you? Needless to say, this one was slightly more than an ‘advisory’...
3. Pinned down
Remember the 6 staples that were holding the driver in position earlier in this list? This offender took a more minimalistic approach, putting their life entirely in the hands of 2 safety pins… brave.
2. All out of tread
This Toyota Yaris rolled into an MOT centre with the owner complaining that the steering wasn’t right…
1. It’s a bit bubbly…
Tyres are the only thing keeping your car on the road and for some reason, people tend to forget that. Like this owner, who was happy to drive his car down to the local MOT centre in Blyth, Northumberland, despite the fact there was a massive bulge in the tyre wall which was one pothole away from violently exploding.
