With the excitement dialled down and clear eyes on, the ID.7 stands out as Volkswagen’s best electric car right now. It might not turn heads for its looks, but its aerodynamic design is exceptional - helping it squeeze an impressive 400 miles from a modest 86kWh battery.

The 97kWh version of Vauxhall’s large SUV is on the way, promising an impressive range. That said, it’ll need to be far more efficient than the 73kWh model we tested to get anywhere near that number in real-world driving - and with the extra weight, we’re not convinced it will.

The lidar bump on the bonnet might have a few late-night revellers mistaking you for a taxi, but you’ll soon forget about it. Mercedes’ first electric GLC is about to hit the roads, boasting an impressive claimed range of 443 miles -  almost one mile for every light on its massive fake grille. At that rate, you could probably skip using your headlights at night.

Less a typical car company and more a bunch of brilliant, slightly mad engineers who occasionally build cars, Lucid has followed its stunning Air saloon with a must-have SUV - and it’s reportedly just as impressive. Definitely near the top of the list of brands we wish were in the UK.

With a modest 2.2 miles per kWh, the Escalade is likely the least efficient car on this list. But with a battery pack the size of five Renault 5s, efficiency barely matters. This is an electric car about as eco-friendly as whaling.

DS’s flagship embodies everything you expect from a French luxury car: plush, distinctive, and a little quirky. Stellantis brands have a tendency to overstate range, but the lower, sleeker No 8 should get closer to 400 miles than its Citroën and Vauxhall cousins.
