The Most Stunning Cars You Can Afford
10 cars on the used market that cost no way near as much as you’d think…
10. Nissan 350Z
Featuring a lovely 3.5 litre V6 which packs endless amounts of torque, this Japanese sports coupe was a poster car for a generation of young people who grew up on the Fast and Furious franchise, but this little 2 seater coupe still has plenty to offer for people who appreciate a nice open B road. Prices are now falling around the £9,000 mark for a fairly well-maintained example and they’ve proven to be quite reliable cars
9. Jaguar XK
The XK hasn’t really aged much at all, they boast a fairly timeless design which oozes class from every panel. There are a variety of petrol engines to pick from depending on which year you can afford, but all of them are powerful when you put your foot down and comfortable when cruising. You’re going to be spending over £15,000 for a good model, but considering the new F-Type (which is the closest you’ll get to an XK) is about £80,000 when new, the XK is a rather promising package.
8. BMW M6
Specifically, the ‘E63/64’ model that was on sale from 2005 to 2010, this is a German super-cruiser loaded with an irresponsibly potent 5-litre V10 engine which throws down a mind-boggling 500 horsepower. A real brute of a car that’s best suited destroying a motorway journey in absolute serenity. Prices are now falling to around £18,000 for a good example, which is incredible when you think that this car was nearing £100,000 when it was new. Be quick though, we've monitored the prices of these and it looks like they're going to appreciate quite dramatically over the next 4 years.
7. Volkswagen Phaeton
Ok, you’ve got a family to ship around and a long motorway journey to and from work every day. Do you commit to financing something like a crossover around the £20,000 mark? Or, alternatively, you could look at a 2011 Volkswagen Phaeton. With a surprisingly modern exterior and a wealth of gadgets, luxury and comfort. This is an executive saloon that can be had from under £10k.This car will also tick all the right boxes if you often have to drive customers or clients around, who you could impress by telling them it is hand-built, which it is.
6. Porsche Boxster
Another pretty little 2 seater has now dipped under the £8,000 mark, but only just. Early Boxsters from around 2003 time have settled just south of 7 grand. This makes them an affordable sports car which would be perfect for a Sunday driver. The 2.7-litre engine sings all the way to the top of the rev range and will guarantee a smile on the driver’s face.
5. Bentley Continental
The Bentley Continental has been updated, which means it will now take more than a private reg plate to make a 2005 model look like a brand new one. Luckily the 'old' model still looks the business and it still demands respect on the road. At this moment in time, you could sink just £22,990 into an 05 GT model with around 68,000 miles on the clock...not bad at all for a big old Bentley, in fact, if you’re brave enough to deal with the maintenance costs then why not?
4. Range Rover Sport
The Range Rover has been a rather well-respected car since its release in 2003. It is often seen as the go-to option for footballers, movie stars and the wealthy. The ‘new’ shape isn’t that new anymore, but the iconic older shape is still highly thought of as it was supremely comfortable with an imposing presence and loads of technology. These Range Rover Sports can now be had from as little as £12,500 (ish) for models with under 70,000 miles on the clock. Careful though, a lot of these cars were modified by footballers with poor taste, and people who wanted to look like they were footballers with poor taste.
3. Nissan GTR
'Godzilla' is now 10 years old in its current identity. This 4 seater coupe, dubbed the ‘supercar killer’ since its inception, it's now free falling in price since the 2017 facelift came out. For just over £30,000 you can get a car that will leave the Ferrari 458 for dust and laugh at anything from Aston Martin. The GTR can do all of this while still squeezing a bag of golf clubs in the boot and blending into traffic around town. Not quite an ‘all rounder’ but the GTR is a pretty easy car to live with, except when it comes to the fuel pump. Expect 22mpg... maximum.
2. Aston Martin Vantage
Just owning a key with the Aston Martin logo on is cool enough, but, owning one of the best looking cars that they’ve produced this side of the millennium would be a real privilege. The Vantage is an iconic car and is now available from around £30,000 - the price of a Prius Plug-in. For this price, you’re looking at a 4.3 litre V8 model with less than 80,000 miles on the clock. It wouldn't be silly to suggest that these will eventually soar in price too, as they are iconic, desirable and soon to be replaced by a new-era of Aston Martins.
1. Mercedes-Benz CLS
This last one might not be to everyone's tastes but the CLS is a sleek, coupe-styled 4-seater that was built for sporty looks and comfortable wafting. The CLS demands to be taken seriously and has bags of road presence. The interior is still leagues ahead of most modern cars. If you’re looking at the 10-year-old models on the used car market you can land a well presented model for around just £8,000. That is an awful lot of car and an awful lot of luxury for your money!
