10. Porsche 911 GT3
Regit rating 9/10 - In reality, the Porsche 911 GT3 is only ever going to appeal to a fairly niche market and then only a very minute percentage will ever get to own one. It’s not practical, it’s not particularly comfortable, it’s expensive and it’s very loud.
But, they are all factors that can be turned around and work in its favour. If you are lucky and those six numbers do come up, then check out this latest 911 before rushing off to look at alternative supercars.
9. MG4
Regit rating 9/10 - There are immediate comparisons between the MG4 and the VW ID.3 and it’s clear to see why. They are both similarly sized and offer a decent driving range between charges. But the MG is far cheaper, has a better residual value and, in our opinion is more fun to drive.
8. Audi A4 Avant
Regit rating 9/10 - The Audi A4 Avant is a superb all-rounder that screams refinement.
While the model isn't generally as good to drive as a BMW 3-Series Touring, it has a better overall interior design quality, even if Bimmer’s infotainment system is superior.
The engines are smooth and reasonably economical, while the ride comfort will take some beating, especially at entry-level with the smaller wheels.
The Mercedes C-Class Estate puts up a good fight, and all are, really, much of a muchness.
There’s no doubting Audi’s premium quality, though
7. BMW iX M60
Regit rating 9/10 - The BMW iX M60 seems to defy all logic. After all it’s a huge family-sized SUV that weighs in at more than 2.5 tonnes. It covers every practical base and offers an impressive driving range on a full charge.
However, it drives like a demon. The acceleration is mind-blowingly quick and the level of power is relentless. But, no matter how hard it’s pushed, it delivers perfect comfort, stability and control. It is well balanced, yet still exhilarating to drive.
And it’s also worth noting that the iX scored really well when it was tested for its Euro NCAP safety rating with high scores for occupant safety and a special mention to child safety systems. What more could you want from an SUV?
6. CUPRA Born 58kWh V3 204PS
Regit rating 8/10 - There can be many comparisons between the CUPRA Born and the VW ID.3, but in our opinion the Spanish model takes the honours. It looks that much sharper and the infotainment set-up is superior. It's also nice to stand out from the crowd sometimes and our test car certainly turned heads wherever it passed, On the downside, it didn't offer the dynamic performance to match its hot hatch looks, but we were driving the least powerful version of the car. Next year, CUPRA is launching its all-electric SUV called the Tavascan and this will be followed by an urban electric car in 2025, so exciting times ahead.
5. Genesis Electrified GV70
Regit rating 8/10 - For a relatively new brand to UK shores – it was only launched here last May - Genesis has made quite an impact. The first customer handover was September 2021 and since then we have seen model launch after model launch.
The ICE-powered GV70 was the company’s best-selling model until the stunning all-electric GV60 was introduced this year. But now the larger sibling is also available with full electrification too.
Deliveries for the latest model commenced in October and it has been announced that from 2025, all new Genesis models will be pure electric.
4. Lexus ES F Sport Takumi Pack
Regit rating 8/10 - The Lexus ES has been a hugely popular car in the US and is now in its seventh generation. And it’s this model that has finally made its way across the Atlantic to be launched in Europe and the UK.
While other global markets have a choice of engine power outputs, UK buyers are limited to just one self-charging hybrid engine. But that works really well as the ES delivers all the comfort, elegance and refinement needed in an executive saloon. It is not as fast as some rivals but you won’t need a chiropractor on speed dial either!
3. VW Tiguan R-Line eHybrid
Regit rating 7/10 - The VW Tiguan eHybrid could be viewed as an ideal first move towards a fully electrified car. But it’s an increasingly competitive sector right now and there are rivals that offer a more dynamic driving experience. That said; this VW is a very good all-rounder and competitively-priced.
2. VW Polo GTI
Regit rating 7/10 - The VW Polo boasts hot-hatch looks and handling, but it’s remains quite refined in the process. That could be seen as a good or bad attribute as some drivers may be looking for a little more edge and excitement.
1. Dacia Jogger Extreme SE TCe 110
Regit rating 6/10 - If you have a tight budget and are desperate for a new car, then the Dacia line-up could be the perfect solution. But it’s not without its faults and it may be worth looking at a comparison with a two- or three-year-old model that drives better and has a lot more safety kit to protect your loved ones.
It may seem we have been harsh on the Jogger and while we realise it is a budget model, it doesn’t live up to the higher standards set by its siblings, the Dacia Sandero Stepway and excellent Dacia Duster.
