2026 Xpeng G6 (2025 - 2026)

Let us reintroduce you to the new Xpeng G6, a premium electric SUV. It arrived in the UK only a year ago - but it's already been updated for 2026. 

Before we begin, we should explain who or what Xpeng is. Well, it’s a global smart electric vehicle company founded in 2014 in Guangzhou, China, that develops clean, intuitive, and connected mobility solutions. As well as its HQ in East Asia, it has a European centre of operations in Amsterdam, with additional offices in Beijing, Shanghai, and Silicon Valley.

Anyway, the latest version of the G6 not only grabs attention with its sleek design but is also intelligently engineered, boasting a set of upgrades in performance, charging capabilities, and in-car technology. 

But beneath its skin, the Chinese car has undergone over 20,000 technical tweaks that have improved battery management, chassis, suspension, steering, and software. All these changes are intended to make the car even more usable.

For the first time in the UK, you can also experience the thrilling Dual-Motor AWD Performance Black Edition, adding an exciting dimension to Xpeng's already impressive lineup. Join our motoring journalist Tim Barnes-Clay as he explores the features and capabilities of the updated G6.

Behind-the-scenes development work has been extensive, and this has helped shape the driving characteristics of the new Xpeng G6.

The improvements are very much aimed at making a difference in real-world driving, smoothing out the UK's hellishly pockmarked road surfaces, improving motorway stability, and providing predictable, confidence-inspiring handling in urban environments.

A high-efficiency heat pump is standard across the range, which helps to support cabin heating and battery preheating in chilly weather, without impacting real-world driving range - but more of that later in our 'running costs' section.

As has been mentioned, for the first time in the UK, the new G6 is available in an AWD Performance Black Edition trim. Featuring dual electric motors with a healthy combined output of 480bhp and 660Nm of torque, the AWD model provides strong real-world performance, accelerating from 0-62mph in just 4.1 seconds. It is every bit as quick as those figures indicate, and I promise you, it will set your pants on fire - in a good way! Oh, and it’ll also slam your head back into the decently cushioned headrest.

The Performance Black Edition has been designed to provide confidence-inspiring handling across a variety of driving conditions, and it offers a clear choice between range and dynamics in the G6 lineup.

The large amount of engineering that has gone into the new Xpeng is what gives the car all the noticeable changes. However, the overall design is still very much G6; it’s the small adjustments that have made the SUV look and feel more premium.

Visually, the refreshed G6 embraces a cleaner, more sophisticated design language that subtly enhances its presence on the road. The exterior changes include a full-width Starlight LED light bar, enhanced detailing at the rear of the SUV, which highlights a ‘Ducktail’ design, body-coloured wheel arches, and relocated badges. Taken together, these alterations produce a more cohesive and premium look without deviating from the G6’s recognisable shape.

The lineup consists of the RWD Standard Range and RWD Long Range. Additionally, the new Dual-Motor AWD Performance Black Edition intensifies the aesthetic by incorporating dark exterior accents, black wheels, and black brake callipers, providing a more assertive visual choice alongside the newly unveiled striking colour – Stella Purple.

Cutting-edge technology is the essence of the Xpeng experience, and the new G6 further enhances its intelligent cockpit system. The high-definition central touchscreen and digital instrument cluster are now accompanied by optimised system performance, smoother transitions between screens, and more convenient voice control.

Improvements to the in-car operating system make it easier to use, whether it's for navigation, media, or adjusting vehicle parameters. Mind you, more physical buttons would still be welcome.

Xpeng explained to us at the car's UK launch that the purpose of these improvements is not to add unnecessary complexity but to achieve clarity: technology that is intuitive, useful, and seamlessly integrated into the driving experience. It works well. Certainly, my co-driver, Dave from the AutoBears channel, and I didn't have any issues.
 

The interior of the new Xpeng G6 is a step forward regarding design and quality. A large part of the cabin has been redesigned and upgraded, with a focus on material quality, comfort, and overall ambience.

Noteworthy updates to the interior include fresh dashboard finishes and enhanced trim materials; revamped door and pillar materials; a newly designed, optimised steering wheel; improved wireless charging surfaces; customisable ambient lighting throughout the cabin; and front seats equipped with massage functionality and lumbar support. 

These alterations culminate in a more serene and refined environment that closely aligns with the expectations of a premium SUV while maintaining Xpeng's clean, minimalist aesthetic. 

Comfort has been further elevated in the five-up Xpeng G6 as well. The front seats offer not only spaciousness, heating and ventilation, but also a massage system. Passengers at the rear get ample head and legroom, high-quality materials, heating, and multiple levels of seat recline. 

What's more, the G6 has retained its practicality with a large 571-litre rear luggage compartment (1374 litres with the back seats flat) and storage solutions tailored for a family environment. However, the car has no frunk (front boot) – which is a shame.

One of the most notable upgrades in the new G6 is under the metal. It houses a new-generation lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery and Xpeng's comprehensive 800V high-voltage system, which provides a substantial boost to charging speed, efficiency, and lifespan.

This cutting-edge technology enables the G6 to charge from as low as 10 per cent to a more reassuring 80 per cent in just 12 minutes, making it one of the fastest-charging electric cars in its segment and enabling more convenient, predictable long-distance journeys.

With a charging rate of 451kW, it outperforms the existing capabilities of the UK's public and private charging networks. This fast-charging technology ensures that the G6 is ready for future advancements in the public charging network.

Furthermore, adopting LFP battery technology enhances robustness and heat resistance while reducing reliance on scarce materials. The battery life has been increased by 30 per cent, giving you greater confidence for the long haul.

The latest G6 Long-Range variants offer a WLTP range of up to 326 miles, while the sexy AWD Performance model achieves a driving distance of up to 316 miles from a full charge. That range isn’t class-leading – but it’s not bad. Even more miles would be welcome, of course - especially in the UK’s winter months.
 

The Chinese-made Xpeng G6 is a decent fusion of design and engineering, and it's clear it's been produced specifically with the British market in mind. 

Rather than focusing on gimmicks and features of little real use, Xpeng's Guangzhou-based design team has zeroed in on delivering useful improvements that have an impact on the 2026 model's charging efficiency, usability, and comfort.

The Xpeng G6 is also rated five stars for safety by Euro NCAP. It scored commendable marks for its strong aluminium-integrated body design, excellent passenger safety, and the availability of many advanced safety features.

It is worth noting that the G6 is priced fairly competitively, too, with the RWD Standard Range model starting at £39,990, the RWD Long Range model from £44,990, and the rather alluring Dual-Motor AWD Performance Black Edition at £49,990.

Granted, most of those prices are probably your yearly salary, but in today’s market - that’s not bad - and you’ll likely pay monthly for the G6 - from around £400 per month - because that’s the way cars tend to be bought these days.
