We’re all doing a lot less driving under lockdown and rightly so, and while there are measures that owners of traditionally powered cars can take to keep their vehicles in check, the rules are ever so slightly different for I-PACE owners.
Owners are concerned that if they leave their car out for too long the battery will go flat and could potentially lose storage capacity once it’s recharged. So, what to do?
Thankfully, Jaguar has stepped in with some helpful advice. They encourage I-PACE owners to keep their vehicles plugged into your home charging point at all times, whether that is via a Wall Box or via a 3-pin plug socket. This is going to keep the vehicles drive battery at its maximum capacity while also maintaining the 12V battery which is used to power the vehicle.
The car will only charge up to 100% so it will not continuously draw power from the charging point once it is topped up, so don’t worry, it will not send your electricity bill through the roof even while it is still plugged in.
What if I don’t have a home charging point?
If keeping it on a continuous charge is not an option for you then the best thing for your I-PACE is to ensure that the battery level doesn’t drop below 50%. Check every 30 days or so just to make sure.
Jaguar also recommends that while your vehicle is charging, it’s a good opportunity to maintain the I-PACE’s air conditioning unit, and you can do this by activating the pre-conditioning functionality in the touch screen.
Anything else?
Jaguar has also repeated the common tips that you’ll have heard from elsewhere. For example, you need to make sure your tyres are suitably inflated to the recommended pressure which should be listed in your vehicle manual. It’s also wise to rotate the wheels by a quarter-turn every 30 days or so to change the point at which pressure is being applied.
Lastly, regarding your brakes, just remember to lightly apply the brakes when you do get the opportunity to go out for a drive. This should clear off any surface corrosion on the brake discs and ensure they are performing as desired.
If your I-PACE needs servicing, don’t hesitate to get in touch with your dealership as although the showrooms are closed, servicing and repair work is taking place with care workers and support staff being given priority.
