6. Terrible tread
This Nissan Qashqai drove into the MOT test centre with two tyres in this state.
5. Sickening springs
Two bits of wood and a cable tie aren’t a good replacement for a bespoke coil spring, as they are a key part of the car’s suspension system.
The MOT garage refused to test this car on safety grounds.
4. Filler fright
This general purpose sealant container was in the rear inner sill of a Ford Transit, converted to a camper van. The tester found a leaking diesel pump as well as a number of large holes in the chassis rails.
The owner of the van could see it was rusty with a visual check, and on lightly poking it with his finger it crumbled. This then revealed the can...frightening.
3. Wonky wheels
This vehicle was driven to its MOT garage at the national speed limit. The driver was unaware that the ball joint on the top suspension arm had completely failed and the only thing holding it together was the weight of the car.
2. All tied up
In our earlier list of MOT failures, 2 examples of worn out seat belts were featured. This offender had tied the seat belt in a knot! There would be no restraint for the passenger sat on the seat in the event of an accident…never underestimate the extent of human stupidity.
1. Cracking up
A 14-year-old Toyota Landcruiser was taken in for a quick MOT before the owner set off on holiday with his caravan in tow. The chassis mounting point for the nearside rear trailing arm had completely corroded away and the back axle was floating around. Not surprisingly, the caravan holiday didn't go ahead and the Landcruiser was scrapped.
