The Winners at This Year’s World Car Awards
Find out who has taken the honours
6. World Luxury Car winner - Audi A7
A second consecutive win for Audi in the World Luxury Car segment, after the A8 took home the trophy in 2018. This is also the 10th World Car Award that Audi has won as a manufacturer in the 15 years that World Car Awards has existed. As of today, Audi has won more World Car Awards than any other manufacturer on the market. The A7 had to fight off competition from the new Audi Q8 and also the new BMW 8 Series to win this category, but sure enough, the sleek super-saloon has come up trumps. The A7 is on sale now and prices start from £48,175 - putting it on the affordable side of the premium large saloon market.
5. World Performance Car winner - McLaren 720S
The competition was extremely tight for what is, arguably, the most exhilarating category of all the World Car Awards. The McLaren 720S was chosen as the winner in New York after being shortlisted against the epic Mercedes-Benz AMG 4-Door Coupe and the new Aston Martin Vantage. The 720S is McLarens first proper supercar built in significant numbers (over 2,000 to qualify for this award) and it has positioned itself among all-time greats such as the Porsche 911, BMW M5, Audi R8 and Ferrari 458, which all won this award in previous years. The 720S is on sale now but, as you’d expect, it is pretty pricey. The car starts from £208,600 - but it has a top speed of 211 mph and can do 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds… so it seems reasonable well priced, right?
4. World Urban Car winner - Suzuki Jimny
Urban cars are meant to be tiny little runarounds which barely fit children in the back seats and aren’t particularly fun to drive anywhere other than city centres. The Suzuki Jimny throws the rulebook out the window. This boxy little tearaway offers so much practicality, functionality and style at a very low price of just £15,499. It’s an urban car that can go off road, tackle the motorways and iron out the city centre too. It really is a jack of all trades and a deserved winner of the World Urban Car award.
3. World Green Car winner - Jaguar I-Pace
The Jaguar I-Pace takes home the crown for the World Green Car of The Year - an award which is only going to increase in importance as the automotive landscape shifts towards more sustainable infrastructure. The I-Pace is Jaguar’s first ever fully electric car and, clearly, they have hit the nail on the head. This is also the first World Green Car Award won by any Jaguar Land Rover model. The I-Pace is, of course, a premium and luxurious car, so the price tag of £63,925 isn’t particularly accessible for the majority of us, but nonetheless, the I-Pace sets a precedent in this class of vehicles.
2. World Car Design of the Year winner & Overall World Car of the Year winner - Jaguar I-Pace
Can you believe it? Jaguar takes home more honours for their epic new I-Pace. This isn’t a huge surprise, as Jaguar Land Rover won ‘best design’ last year for the Range Rover Velar, and also in 2017 for the Jaguar F-Pace, so that’s three in a row for the British automaker and 5 overall since the inception of the World Car Awards in 2014. No other manufacturer has won more design awards in that time.
It’s a hat trick for the I-Pace! The electric car designed and developed in the UK has taken top honours at this year's world car awards, alongside the design and green awards, to make it 3 out of 3 for the categories it was shortlisted for. Bravo. This is the second time in 3 years that Jaguar has received the World Car of the Year award, after the F-Pace in 2017. Over 11,000 customers have already bought and taken delivery of the exceptional new I-Pace, in more than 60 countries worldwide. The blend of sports car performance, SUV practicality and premium refinement ensure that the I-Pace delivers so much more than what is expected. A real triumph from the Jaguar brand, especially when you consider that this is only their first attempt at an electric car, the best is yet to come…
