The Celerio is the most affordable hatchback coming out of Japan and onto our shores right now. There were some niggling issues on the car when it was first launched but after a recall, they are now good to go and make for a pleasant driving experience. Right now you can get the Sz2 (mid-level) model for £79 a month, or if you want to add some kit you can get a high level ‘SZ3’ for £99 a month.

Obviously, the Sandero was always going to feature in this list! Available from the exceptional price of just £89 per month, the Sandero is a no-frills daily driver that can be run on an incredibly small budget. Insurance rates are low, running costs are low and fuel economy is high! There’s a new Nissan Micra on its way to the showrooms, which means there’s incredible deals on the outgoing model. The new shape will appeal to a much younger audience when it comes out, whereas the current model is a bit more conservative in design. It is functional, economical and practical - the Micra is a sure bet for a reliable run around and one we would highly recommend.

Bringing back the 500 was probably the best decision FIAT have made in the last 15 years. Their hatchbacks had fallen behind the competitors and they weren’t dominating any marketplace they entered. It’s a spritely little package, best served with a 3 cylinder engine, and it offers functionality that will tick most, if not all, the boxes required by buyers looking for something small enough to park easily but substantial enough to do the weekly shop. The Citigo also comes with a good level of equipment and there’s plenty of customisation options to make your Citigo your own.

The Up! Is very much the same as the Citigo, with the same platform, engines and some interior parts. The up! Sets itself as one above the Skoda though by using better materials, a more attractive exterior and a better equipped dealership network. This does come at a cost of an extra £10 a month though when comparing the most affordable deals available.

The Swift is the small-hatch offering from Suzuki and is pretty darn affordable. You can get the SZ2 spec (mid-level) for £99 a month with just a £2,137 deposit and the option to buy is only £2,953 at the end of the deal. Interest rates are low at just 2.9% APR - not bad in the current marketplace!

Another one from Dacia, but arguably even more of a bargain than the normal Sandero. The new Sandero Stepway can be had for just £99 per month, which means you get the fundamental core of the Sandero while also benefitting from a little extra ground clearance, roof bars and a more rugged exterior. So it’s more car for not much more money! Another one we’d highly recommend due to the minimal running costs.

This one from Vauxhall is actually a Personal lease deal, not a PCP, so you don’t own the vehicle at the end of it, you just give it back and you can get another one. The Viva is a more comfortable hatchback than the likes of the Corsa, as it sits higher off the ground with a loftier roofline and more natural driving position. This suits the more mature drivers to a tee. Right now you can get the new model on a lease with a £2,277 advanced rental for just £99 per month.

This one is another Personal Lease Deal - meaning no option to buy at the end. The new ForFour is a stylish hatchback from Smart which now fits 2 in the front and 2 in the back, ‘For Four’... It’s a much more fashionable car now than the dated, outgoing model and it is certainly more gender-neutral in its design, meaning a much bigger potential market for the Forfour. There’s a deal that will please most people too, in their ‘Lower Monthly Payment’ lease, which is £99 a month with a £2,299 down payment/ advanced rental. This is a 4 year deal with 7,000 annual mileage.
