The Audi A6 E-Tron Concept is a fully electric, luxurious, prototype saloon that has been seen for the first time at Auto Shanghai 2021. The manufacturer also revealed this concept car is more than a ‘simple design exercise’ that gets attention at a motor show. It is a ‘foretaste’ of forthcoming production cars. So, let us summarise what the saloon has to offer.
Clever paint
The A6 E-Tron Concept has fascinating and unusual features. Its paint reduces energy consumption, for starters. Why? Because it reflects ‘a significant percentage of thermal radiation from sunlight’. In other words, it stops heat from penetrating the cabin so there is less need to use the air conditioning. Audi also suggested the paint has a ‘three-dimensional depth effect’ which is striking.
Turn signal projection
The luxury saloon has an unusual way to indicate a change of direction. When the driver indicates, two green arrows appear to side of the vehicle on the road surface. This system complements rather than replaces the traditional indicators.
Power, range per charge, charge time
The Audi A6 E-Tron Concept’s mechanical specification confirms it is a premium vehicle. Propulsion comes via an electric motor on each axle, for starters. It has all-wheel drive for greater traction and peace of mind. The motors produce 475 PS and 800 Nm of torque (total). That is a great deal of power.
This electric saloon also travels a considerable distance per charge. Expect up to 435 miles. The 100 kWh battery recharges quickly, too. Its capacity, therefore, rises from 5% to 80% in less than 25 minutes (if connected to a fast charger). Audi also suggests that the vehicle’s range rises by 186 miles in 10 minutes.
Further points of interest
The Audi A6 E-Tron Concept has further strengths. They include:
- sleek, modern, and purposeful styling
- excellent aerodynamics that maximises the range per charge
- camera-based virtual exterior mirrors
- illuminated Audi badges at the front and rear.
More to follow
The Audi A6 E-Tron Concept is a precursor to several electric vehicles that will launch in the coming years. Many will share its platform that contains the electric motors, the battery, and other key components. ‘Audi is resolutely pushing ahead with its e-volution towards electric mobility’, the motor manufacturer stated.
