Miraculously the driver escaped with non life-threatening injuries

Car falls from bridge causing M6 to shut

The M6 was closed near Congleton yesterday after a vehicle plunged from a bridge over the M6 onto the northbound carriageway.

Emergency vehicles were called to the scene, close to junction 17, just after 1pm after being made aware that a car had gone through the barrier.

Miraculously, the driver escaped with non-life threatening injuries although they were airlifted to hospital.

There are currently no further details on what caused the crash or exactly how the driver had such a lucky escape.

There were delays of more than four hours after the crash and queues were still about six miles long two hours after the motorway reopened.
