The 'Dangerous Daydreamer' is the pedestrian that steps into the road without looking
This kind of pedestrian is usually in a world of their own, oblivious to what is going on around them. Only when they hear the beep of your horn do they actually know you are there!
The 'Careless Crosser' is the pedestrian that crosses roads between parked cars
The majority of us are taught basic Green Cross Code skills from a young age teaching us not to cross the road between parked cars as motorists cannot see you. So I find myself asking the same question “Why do pedestrians continuously try to cross the road when they are hidden between vehicles?”
The 'Music Mind' is the pedestrian that is distracted by wearing earphones or headphones
Similar to the Dangerous Daydreamer, pedestrians listening to music tend to again be in a world of their own so crossing roads can be fatal. As a pedestrian, you still need to be able to hear the traffic and be aware of what is going on around you.
The 'Health Hazard' is the pedestrian that crosses busy roads while dodging the moving traffic
The 'Smartphone Surfer' is the zombie-like pedestrian
This kind of behaviour is mainly found in town centres, on busy, or main roads. Pedestrians insist on weaving through up to 4 lanes of traffic to get to the other side of the road. When it is dark it makes it very difficult for the motorist to spot these vehicle dodgers.
Pedestrians deeply engrossed in their phones whilst crossing the road are a danger to themselves and other road users. Walking on their mobile phones while they message, browse or catch up on social media have zombie-like spacial awareness...
We’re not all perfect pedestrians as we like to think we are, so are you guilty of any of these sins?
