The new type of ‘per camera’ catches far more than just speed

Hi-tech camera, that can see 'everything' begins trials

The Parifex Nano, or 'Super Cam', has begun its trials on Europe’s roads and, unlike traditional cameras, this one can see everything.

It’s been in development for some time and used 3D lidar to scan 100 metres of road on a 360 degrees swivel.

The camera can measure speeds between 18mph and 155mph but that’s just a very small part of its powers.

‘Super Cam’ can detect vehicles jumping red lights, crossing double white lines and drivers not wearing seatbelts – all in one shot.

Not only that, but it monitors tailgating, driving against the flow of traffic and failing to stop at stop signs.

The Lidar system is backed up by a conventional camera to capture images of the offence and can operate in any weather conditions, day or night.

The Parifex Nano is only currently approved for use on French roads and local website Radar-Auto.com has claimed the system is already in already working well. Given its capabilities, we don’t think it will be long before it arrives here, too.
