Black Cab achievements

The London Black Cab has witnessed its passengers' triumphs, failures, happiness and misery but now the current version says farewell at The London Motor Show from May 4th to 7th 2017. The Euro 6 TX4 launched in 2007 but – late in 2017 – makes way for the TX5 which is its brand new, more environmentally friendly, replacement.

The TX4 has taken business tycoons to meetings, tourists on site seeing adventures and families to life changing events such as weddings. It is, therefore, part of the national heritage. It has also starred in thousands of films and television shows. Sherlock Holmes, for example. The Bond franchise required its services, too.

TX4 specification

The TX4 has a range of strengths that ensure it is loved and respected. It has been purpose built as a taxi, for example, so  the driver is separated from passengers by a barrier. The intercom makes it easy to chat and the chip and pin system makes paying straightforward. It has room for 5 passengers and a 437-litre boot.

Passengers that require a little extra help to jaunt through the city have been catered for, too. Special features include the integrated wheelchair ramp and the wheelchair retention kit. The TX4 also incorporates a hearing aid loop system, swivelling rear seat plus high contrasting seat edges and grab handles (in yellow).

TX4 Limited Edition

The London Motor Show showcases the TX4 in its final, Limited Edition, form which is based on the Elegance trim. Production is restricted to 300 examples. It is the vehicle's “grand finale”, the London Taxi Company explained. Special additional features include:

  • Air-conditioning
  • Bluetooth hands-free
  • Chrome exterior trim
  • Colour-coded bumpers and door mirrors
  • DAB digital radio
  • Front fog lights

Passengers and drivers can show their respect for the car – and share their memories of it - by signing its giant leaving card at the Confused.com London Motor Show 2017. Nervously travelling to meet a blind date, perhaps. Foreign visitors can join the celebration as the car has been exported to more than 40 countries.

Motor Show welcomes iconic taxi

Alec Mumford, Chairman of The London Motor Show, said: “Welcoming a true London icon to our show in the capital is incredibly fitting. We’re very excited to play a big part in paying tribute to a legend.”

He continued: “We all have memories of being in one of the current cabs, and it’ll be very interesting to see what our guests write in the leaving card.”
