The fastest electric cars on the market

Aspark Owl

The Aspark Owl is the ‘fastest accelerating car in the world’, its manufacturer claims. This hypercar produces 2,012bhp from four electric motors. It charges from 0 to 60mph in 1.69 seconds and its top speed is 248mph. The maximum range per charge is 280 miles, it’s built from carbon fibre and is only 99cm tall. Production is limited to 50 cars.

Tesla Model S Plaid

The Tesla Model S Plaid is very, very fast but still practical enough to use every day. It has four doors, room for five people, and acres of storage as it has a two boots, one in the front and one in the rear. There is even room for a bicycle if you fold the rear seats flat. Using its 1,020bhp the Model S Plaid will get to 60mph in only 1.99 seconds and reach a top speed of 200mph. The Model S can also be driven automatically as it can accelerate, brake and steer without manual input.

Audi RS e-tron GT

The Audi RS e-tron GT is a powerful, four door, electric beast. It has all-wheel drive, all-wheel steering, and adaptive air suspension and it’s fast, too. The Audi produces 637bhp and hits 62mph in 3.3 seconds. Additionally, the rear spoiler emerges and retracts to optimise aerodynamic efficiency. The futuristic interior is also a thing to raise eyebrows…

Porsche Taycan Turbo S

The Porsche Taycan Turbo S has launch control that guarantees blistering performance from a standstill. Once this system is active, the car briefly produces 750hp. It typically only has 616hp. To use launch control, select ‘sport’ or ‘sport plus’ mode via a dial on the steering wheel, press and hold down the brake pedal then floor the throttle. Finally, release the brakes and the car hits 62mph in 2.8 seconds. The maximum speed is 162mph.

BMW iX xDrive 50

The BMW iX xDrive 50 is a fast, powerful, and luxurious SUV that makes an impression. It genuinely feels different to other cars. Key features include its hexagonal steering wheel which is ‘inspired by the world of racing’, the manufacturer says. It complements the enormous, curved, digital screens that span much of the dashboard. The iX also has 523hp, hits 62mph in 4.6 seconds, and travels up to 369 miles per charge.
