The Mach-E enters the market as Ford’s all-new, all-electric SUV, donning the famous Mustang badge and boasting the performance to back up its identity. It’s an impressive piece of kit that looks like it has been taken from the set of a science fiction film, and Ford says that it’s a car that will just get better and better throughout ownership.

What do they mean by this, exactly? Well, just like your smartphone, The Mach-E Mustang will receive ‘through the air’ software updates. These updates will fix bugs, improve software efficiency and even improve the all-electric range of your car.

These updates can be done wherever and whenever, even from the comfort of your own home. Most updates will take about 2 minutes to complete and they could unlock new features in your car that weren’t necessarily present at the time you purchased the vehicle.

Ford Mustang

Ford have announced that over-the-air updates have already increased the Mach-E’s charging rate by almost 30%. The Mach-E can now achieve up to 73 miles of range within just 10 minutes.

John Vangelov, connected services manager, Ford Motor Company said: “The beauty of the Mustang Mach-E is that what our customers experience on day one is just the beginning – it will evolve to add even more features and capabilities over time,”

“Our clever over-the-air updates also minimize downtime through incredibly fast activation and ensure your Mustang Mach-E is always getting better, even when you’re asleep.”

Ford expects the Mach-E to receive it’s first updates within 6 months of the first models being delivered, and owners will be able to schedule their updates to ensure they are made as seamlessly as possible, such as when the vehicle is parked up at home in the middle of the night.

All of this continuous improvement will make the Mach-E Mustang an extremely attractive car to performance car buyers, SUV buyers, family buyers and electric-car buyers, which is a fairly large market share to attack. The car starts from £40,270 and it has a total electric range of 370 miles on a single charge.

The performance of the Mustang Mach-E is worth noting too. Ford has said to expect a 0-60 mph time of under 5 seconds. That’s incredible for a car of this size and stature.

Inside, there is plenty of space for 5 adults thanks to the roomy design of the cabin, and the boot can hold up to 502 litres with the seats in place, expanding to 1,420 litres with the rear seats folded.

So, as you can tell, the Mustang Mach-E seems like a properly well-thought-through electric car that will only get better throughout ownership. If you’re interested, why not get in touch with your dealer now and book a test drive?
