When we went to view the car we were interested in it was in a right mess. The dealer had been using the car as a run-around and it was full of rubbish including used tissues and half-eaten fish and chips! This should have set the alarm bells ringing but we gave them the benefit of the doubt given we had turned up somewhat unarranged. The car seemed OK for the price and the woman was polite and friendly. The tyres looked a bit worn though and the last MOT had been done 5 months ago and had done 5k miles since so we asked for a new MOT to be done and NEW tyres to be put on as a condition of us buying it at the full advertised price. The dealer agreed to this and we paid a deposit and arranged for them to deliver it to us after confiming the MOT was OK. Got a text rather than a call to say the tyres had been changed and MOT done and they could deliver the next day. I asked if everything was OK with the MOT and was told it was fine so the car was delivered as agreed. However, when it arrived it appeared there had been an advisory on the MOT for a corroded and leaking exhaust. This is something I feel I should have been told about when I asked if everything was OK with the MOT. Still, I let it slide as it was only an advisory even though I should have been told. I then put the car in for a service and was issued with the following advisories: Corroded & leaking exhaust Slightly perished side wall on 2 tyres (and only 4mm tread) Leaking driveshaft Lipped brakes Peeling number plate Now OK I bought a used car and paid a fair price (£3.5k which was current market value). I expect some advisories and no used car is perfect - I totally expect that. However, what got me was that not only was there the leaking exhaust problem I should have been told about but also the NEW tyres I had asked to be put on were actually used tyres - and not very good ones at that. I therefore contacted the dealer to find out what they were willing to do about the problems, specifically the exhaust and tyres. It took me a whole month to actually get a response and a call back from them. The guy (Stuart) was a complete nightmare to talk to. Every time I started trying to explain my point of view - he started talking over me and would not let me finish. He also became aggressive and whilst he agreed to look at putting another pair of used tyres on, he was adamant I had to come to the garage so he could 'sort me out'. This is despite the fact it was my partner who bought the car - therefore there would be no need for me to be there. His phone manner was such that I felt my safety would be at risk if I took the car back to him (I'm only 5ft 6 whereas he is quite a large guy) and so unfortunately Ive had to put it down to a bad experience and try and forget about it. My advice would be not to risk buying anything from these guys because if you have a problem - it won't be resolved, you'll just be threatened.
