Sold a Faulty Vehicle – No Response or Accountability
I bought a Ford Mondeo from Craven Cars Ltd on 10th March 2025. Soon after, major issues became apparent:
10th April: I had to replace dangerously worn brakes and repair a leaking differential seal — both within a month of purchase, at my own cost. There was an advisory on the MOT for the brakes, but upon repair the garage advised there is no chance the brakes on the vehicle would pass an MOT as they were not roadworthy. E.g. Discs cracked and majorly warped. Dangerous!
Since day one: There was a diesel smell in the cabin, which worsened over time.
By mid-August: A professional mechanic identified long-standing fuel injector faults, including a snapped clamp and botched nonstandard threaded bolt showing clear signs of a prior poor repair. I have clear photographic evidence showing this. Please see attached images - I have circled blue to show the botched snapped clamp, installed this way, and non standard threaded bolt. Dealer denies selling the car this way despite professional garage confirming this has been done a while back and before my purchase, due to the obvious amount of tarry / diesel matter which takes time to accumulate. Moreover, I can testify to the fact that I had not had this type of works done on the car in this time frame from purchase so the car was certainly sold to me this way by Craven Cars Ltd.
I contacted the dealership formally on 13th September, 3 days after the 6-month Consumer Rights Act window, despite having evidence within 6 months window, (photos logged with metadata to prove), providing full details and asking for a fair resolution under the Consumer Rights Act. They state they are not responsible despite preexisting fault is totally obvious. Further to this they’ve ignored all emails and read — but not responded to — WhatsApp follow-ups.
I’ve now had to escalate through:
A Section 75 claim with my credit card provider,
Trading Standards, and
Preparing for Small Claims Court.
Poor customer care, zero accountability. I wouldn’t recommend buying from this dealer based on my experience.
