The MINI Convertible is Auto Express’ Convertible of the Year 2020 as it ‘offers open top thrills at affordable prices’, the judges revealed. In fact, this fashion statement claimed the title for the third year in succession at the New Car Awards 2020. The MINI Convertible was therefore broadly praised by the judges.
Handling
Auto Express noted its ‘sharp handling’, for example. Among other things, this ensures you have fun behind the wheel which is important in a car of this nature. MINI is ‘all about fun’, the judges stated. There is also a choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission and various engines. In particular, the 2.0 litre, 231 bhp, turbocharged engine has spirited performance.
Personalisation
The MINI Convertible can be further personalised to taste – and that won plaudits too. ‘What makes the MINI experience is the personalisation potential’, the judges suggested. ‘All the cars in the range offer the chance to tailor the spec to your tastes. There is a choice of: wheels, mirror caps, graphics packs, interior colours, and trim inserts. The Convertible has different roof options, too.’
Roof
The MINI Convertible electric roof won further praise from the judges. Why? Because it operates easily, quickly, and while the vehicle is travelling. Such strengths are particularly helpful in autumn/winter when the weather can quickly take a turn for the worse in the UK. ‘The roof takes 18 seconds to raise or lower and can be operated at speeds of up to 19 mph’, the judges explained.
Summary and price
Auto Express then summarised the car’s strengths. ‘Regardless of trim or engine, it is superb fun and packed with tech. It is all backed up by real substance at a price that is hard to ignore. So, for the third year in a row the MINI is our convertible champion’, the judges concluded. Prices start at £20,630.
MINI praises its award winning car
The MINI Convertible is popular with motorists as well as judges, the manufacturer stressed. Since 2016 when the current model launched, it has ‘outsold its rivals every year’ and is the ‘United Kingdom’s best selling convertible’. Nearly 27,000 have found homes. MINI also confirmed it is delighted to win Convertible of the Year 2020. Director, David George, revealed:
