Car theft is a pervasive issue, with individuals stealing various components like wheels, catalytic converters, radios, and interior belongings. Recently, a peculiar incident involving a Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo came to light when thieves opted to steal its headlights. Shared by Reddit user No_Supermarket9751, images of the unusual crime inflicted upon his friend's vehicle have sparked unease.
The event transpired on a Monday night in Düsseldorf, Germany, as recounted by No_Supermarket9751 to Motor1. The Porsche, parked along the road, fell victim to thieves who utilised tin snips to cut into the wings/fenders, gaining access to disconnect the lamps.
No_Supermarket9751 mentioned that his friend promptly notified the police, initiating an ongoing investigation into the incident.
Until the stolen headlights are replaced, and the body damage rectified, this Taycan remains undriveable. Depending on the factory-equipped lighting options, the cost of headlight assemblies alone can reach around £2,600, with control modules priced at £750 each. Furthermore, a £250 motor is required for each light, and the wings/fenders carry a price tag of over £500 each. Additional expenses for painting and installation make this an unavoidably costly repair.
Interestingly, this isn't the first instance of thieves targeting Taycan headlights. During research for this story, a forum discussion revealed a similar incident in 2021, and a Reddit post from 2020 detailed another Porsche falling prey to headlight theft.
Owners parking a Taycan on the street are advised to remain vigilant.
