Honda Super-N: New Electric City Car with Simulated Gear Shifts Coming to the UK

Honda will launch a new electric city car next year designed to excite driving enthusiasts, featuring a simulated gearshift system – and it’s coming to the UK.

The compact model, aimed at rivals like the Renault Twingo, has been previewed at the Tokyo Motor Show as the Super-N prototype. It’s an evolution of the Super EV Concept, which made its first appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year.

Built on one of Honda’s N-Series kei car platforms, the Super-N shares similarities with Japan’s N-One E but has a sportier look with a wider stance, chunkier bumpers, aerodynamic ducts and a small lip spoiler.

Honda hasn’t revealed full technical details yet, but it’s expected to be among the smallest electric cars sold in the UK. For reference, the N-One E measures under 3,400mm in length, around 200mm shorter than a Fiat 500e. While it’s not yet confirmed if the Super-N will use the same 63bhp electric motor, Honda has said the car will feature a Boost mode that unleashes maximum power, adds artificial engine sound, and simulates gear shifts to make driving more engaging.

The production Super-N will go on sale in Japan and select global markets, including the UK, which will be its only European launch market for now.

Pricing hasn’t been announced, but the Super-N is expected to replace the short-lived Honda E as the brand’s entry-level EV, likely at a significantly lower price than the E’s £37,000.

The Super-N headlines Honda’s electric showcase at the Tokyo Motor Show, alongside several other new EVs, including the 0 SUV, a new entry-level 0 Series model for Japan and India, and the RSX SUV prototype from Acura, Honda’s US performance division.
