If you drive an electric car, flat hunting just got way easier. Zoopla has introduced new search filters that let you find homes with EV chargers or see how close the nearest public charging point is.
It's all part of a new partnership with Vauxhall, after research showed 40% of UK drivers say access to EV charging will influence where they move next.
Electric car ownership is rising fast in the UK, with over 1.5 million fully electric cars now on the road, according to data from ZapMap. But Zoopla revealed that in 2025, only 1.6% of listings mentioned EV charging at all, a massive missed opportunity as one in four new cars sold is now electric.
So what’s new on Zoopla?
Now, when you’re browsing properties on Zoopla, you can:
- Filter listings to show only those with home EV chargers
- View the nearest on-street charger using map data from Octopus Electroverse
- See charging points listed alongside schools and stations in the listing info
Vauxhall says this update is a big step for its Electric Streets of Britain campaign, which aims to make charging easier for EV drivers across the UK.
Zoopla's Daniel Copley said, "We're proud to be the first property website to offer consumers the ability to find the nearest on-street chargers to a property, and filter properties with home-charging.
"Buyer requirements are constantly evolving as a result of factors like lifestyle changes and commuting patterns. By improving Zoopla's search functionality, our aim is that we will empower more confident moving decisions, particularly for current and future EV owners."
And it turns out this matters a lot. In a poll of 2,000 people, a third said they’d avoid moving somewhere without decent charging nearby. For current EV drivers, that jumps to 84%. No charger means no deal.
Renting and want an EV charger? Here’s what you need to know
If you’re renting, don’t go drilling into the wall just yet. You’ll need your landlord’s permission to install a charger, but it could be worth asking. Not only will it make your life easier, it can also increase the property’s value.
The Open Property Group says a home charger can add around 1.7% to a property’s value. That's roughly £4,800 based on the UK’s average house price.
Just make sure any agreement is in writing to avoid issues later on.
Will EV chargers affect house prices in the future?
ThisIsMoney asked EV charger provider Cord whether chargers will boost house prices. Their answer? Absolutely.
As EVs go mainstream, homes without chargers might start to feel like those without broadband, hard to rent and less desirable. Even though some drivers might have brand preferences for chargers, most modern models are pretty standardised and work with any EV.
Cord added "We definitely do see chargers as adding serious value to homes. And in not too long, homes without chargers will be far harder to let - just like homes without broadband are tough to let currently.'
