BMW’s new electric SUV is turning heads and it’s not just because it looks slick.
The biggest flex? From spring 2026, the new iX3 will claim the crown as the longest-range EV in UK showrooms with a crazy 500 miles on a single charge. That’s enough to get you from London to Dundee without stopping.
It’s not just about range though. The iX3 packs ultra-fast charging, next-level tech, and a seriously comfy interior, all for under £60K. While it’s not exactly cheap, it undercuts rivals like the Porsche Macan EV and Tesla’s new Model Y Performance.
And BMW isn’t stopping there. Later in 2026, a rear-wheel-drive version is expected to hit around 600 miles of range. That basically makes range anxiety a thing of the past.
Part of BMW’s Neue Klasse project, the iX3 is built from the ground up with a new chassis, EV architecture, software, and drivetrain. Here’s what’s worth knowing before it hits UK roads next year.
The iX3 is essentially an electric X3, measuring about 4.8m long and 1.6m high, with sleek, minimalist styling. There’s a new ‘Iconic Glow’ grille option that looks less like a traditional BMW and more like something playful, think Bugs Bunny vibes.
The launch all-wheel-drive 50 xDrive packs 463bhp, hitting 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds, with a top speed capped at 130 mph. But the real headline? Charging and range. Thanks to 800-volt architecture, the iX3 can gain 231 miles of range in just 10 minutes of charging.
BMW’s ‘superbrain’ tech runs on four high-speed computers, with the one controlling driving systems dubbed the ‘heart of joy.’ It handles motors, brakes, steering, and safety systems, making everything run seamlessly.
Inside, the iX3 comes with the Panoramic iDrive System, a high digital display aligned with your line of sight, plus an optional 3D head-up display. Physical controls are still there for wipers, mirrors, hazards, and heating. The cabin is plush, with a wraparound cockpit, minimalist front seats, a rear ‘sofa-like’ bench, a 520-litre boot, and a 58-litre frunk, perfect for everyday life.
Sustainability gets a nod too. Almost a third of the iX3 uses recycled materials, and its Hungarian factory runs without fossil fuels. Overall, it has a 34 percent smaller carbon footprint than the outgoing model.
UK deliveries kick off on 7 March 2026, starting at £59,775. You’ll get three trims to choose from: iX3, iX3 M Sport, and M Sport Pro.
