Longbow Motors reveals its first fully functional electric Speedster, promising 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds, a 275-mile range, and a nod to classic British sports cars.

British EV startup Longbow unveils featherweight speedster prototype

British startup Longbow Motors has revealed its first fully functional EV prototype, just six months after announcing the project. That’s lightning-fast in car-building terms, where most manufacturers take at least 18 months to get from concept to prototype. Even more impressive considering Longbow only launched in 2023.

Founders Daniel Davey and Mark Tapscott bring serious experience, having worked with names like Polestar, Lucid, Uber and BYD.

The Speedster is the first of two ultra-lightweight EVs planned by Longbow. Built on an aluminium chassis and powered by a compact electric motor with innovative “module-to-chassis” battery tech, it weighs just 895kg. Performance figures are equally striking - 0–62mph in 3.5 seconds and a 275-mile range. Prices for the limited run start at £84,995, and the first year’s allocation has already sold out, with deliveries beginning next year.

Next up is the Roadster, a hard-top version roughly 100kg heavier, but with a lower starting price of £64,995.

Longbow describes both models as modern spiritual successors to icons like the Lotus Elise and Jaguar E-Type. If that’s true, the MG Cyberster might just have some new competition.
