BUYER BEWARE!!
Warning to Future Buyers (Ended in Legal Settlement in my favour)
I am posting this review as a clear warning to future buyers based on my personal experience purchasing for Crown Cars,
Lincoln Road, Peterborough, PE1 3HQ.
This matter ultimately resulted in formal legal action.
What I experienced
Shortly after purchase, issues began immediately. One of the vehicle keys did not work and required a return visit to the dealer.
The car then developed electrical and battery faults, including repeated failure of the start–stop system. An independent check confirmed the battery supplied with the vehicle was faulty and not fit for purpose, requiring replacement largely at my own expense.
I was directed to use the warranty, which I had been told covered “everything up to £1,000”.
After purchase, I discovered this was not true, as many items were excluded or only partially covered.
Over a short period of ownership, the vehicle suffered multiple serious mechanical faults, including:
EGR valve issues,
Coolant hose fault,
Battery failure,
Lumbar sensor fault,
Intercooler hose failure,
Turbocharger failure
This work was in the thousands!
The turbocharger failed within six months of purchase, leaving the vehicle undriveable. An independent garage confirmed that the fault was not consistent with normal wear and was consistent with pre-existing damage.
Because the car could not be driven, I was forced to arrange urgent repairs myself in order to remain mobile.
At the same time, I urgently needed a working vehicle to:
support my father, who is a cancer patient and to
transport my child to school.
I sought advice from Trading Standards, who confirmed my rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including entitlement to a repair or refund within six months.
There were serious concerns about the MOT
I was told at the point of sale that the vehicle had a “new MOT with nothing to advise."”
This later proved to be misleading.
The MOT was, in fact, around one month old, despite being described as new. My independent garage stated clearly that the MOT was not accurate at all, given the condition of the vehicle and the serious faults that emerged shortly afterwards and a tyre being under the legal limit.
The MOT testing station used is located only a few doors away from the selling dealer. While I can not state the nature of any relationship, this raised serious concerns for me about the independence and reliability of the MOT in my case.
Despite repeated attempts to resolve matters professionally, I was left with no practical resolution, causing significant stress and disruption during an already extremely difficult time.
After exhausting all other options, I proceeded through the Small Claims Court process.
The matter was ultimately resolved by Lgal Settlement, with Crown Cars paying compensation.
Warning to others
Based on my experience, I believe Crown Cars are selling vehicles that are not fit for purpose, which is also what was stated in an independent garage report on the vehicle they sold me.
Given the severity of the faults, the impact on myself and the fact this matter required legal action and ended in a settlement, I would say do not, under any circumstances, buy a vehicle from this business.
I would also urge potential buyers to treat overly positive reviews with caution. Based on what I personally experienced, I find it very difficult to reconcile claims of “good cars” with the condition of the vehicle I was sold.
This review is to warn others before they make a costly mistake.
DONT BUY A VEHICLE FROM THIS GARAGE
I expect the garage may attempt to challenge the content of this review, as garages always do when people write true factual reviews however, I am in possession of detailed reports, invoices, and independent garage assessments which substantiate every point raised including the court mediation paper work.
Proven repaire costs were over £1400 I settled for £550 to reduce the serious stress this garage put me through with selling a majorly faulty car proven by independant garages.
DONT BUY HERE
