I purchased a Vauxhall Corsa from Riverside Motors in June 2025 for £4,999 after seeing it advertised on AutoTrader. The advert stated the car was fully prepared, serviced, and roadworthy, and that it included a new service, twelve-month warranty, and AA breakdown cover. None of these items were ever supplied, nor the promised new tyres. Within days of delivery, the engine began smoking. An independent RAC mechanic diagnosed a failed head gasket, caused by a poorly fitted coolant pump replaced by the dealer before sale. I immediately exercised my short-term right to reject under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and requested a full refund. Instead of refunding, the dealer claimed (incorrectly) that my wife had authorised a repair. His mechanic — accompanied by three men — arrived with no parts, no ramp, and only basic tools. The car was later collected without consent and, two weeks later, abandoned outside a pub late at night while my family was abroad. When we returned, the engine warning lights were still on, and a further inspection confirmed it remained unroadworthy. The car has since been sold for scrap for £450. I later discovered that a previous company operating from the same address, under a similar name, had been dissolved with multiple County Court Judgments. The same director now trades under this company. A court claim is currently in progress to recover the cost of the vehicle, though the company’s assets appear to be protected by a charge. This review reflects my personal experience and the factual record of that ongoing case.
