Insurance company tell grandmother she was ‘at fault’ for parking her car in Luton Airport car park after it was destroyed by blaze

The unnamed insurance company has offered her just £7,000 to replace the £20,000 car.

A grandmother who has lost her £20,000 car to the Luton Airport car park fire has been told she is ‘at fault’ by her insurance company and they won’t be paying out the full value of her car.

Cath Glaze, who only had access to this car, has been left flabbergasted after insurance firms refused to pay out the full sum while she has also lost her no-claims bonus.

Insurance firms have used inflation as an excuse to raise premiums by an average of 48% over the last 12 months but those who had cars trapped in the car park are finding it extremely difficult to get any sort of fair compensation.

Because her car is expected to be written off, Cath’s insurance company are also refusing to offer her a courtesy car meaning she is unable to go about her day-to-day life and she has since said the whole experience as been 'very traumatic and upsetting'.

Cath said: 'We bought our car new, have had it serviced regularly, and weren't planning to change it for the foreseeable future, as it's been a very reliable car and has low mileage. We now don't have access to a vehicle.'
