Jeremy Clarkson couldn’t resist throwing shade at Jeremy Vine this week after the Channel 5 presenter backed Sadiq Khan’s latest Transport for London (TfL) plans.
TfL’s big idea? A full revamp of the Holland Park Roundabout — adding cycle lanes, new crossings, and traffic signals. It includes a protected two-way cycle route stretching from Shepherd’s Bush Green to Holland Park Avenue.
Vine, a longtime cycling advocate and self-confessed Holland Park Roundabout hater, praised the move online, calling the current layout a “Grand Prix” and “a huge barrier to happy commuting.”
Supporters like YouTuber Cycling Mikey were buzzing, with Mikey saying he “can’t wait” for the upgrade, calling the area a “nightmare” for cyclists.
But not everyone’s sold on the redesign.
Clarkson clapped back on X (formerly Twitter), saying:
“I use it frequently too... and it’s fine because I have a car, not a child’s toy.”
Ouch.
Critics of the revamp — including local residents and business owners — say the changes could cause more problems than they solve, with longer car journeys and higher accident risks.
The plans also include a priority bus lane and a realigned pedestrian crossing outside the station on Uxbridge Road, according to the Daily Mail.
This isn’t the first time Clarkson and Vine have clashed. The pair have a history of online spats about drivers vs. cyclists, with Vine once calling Clarkson a “muppet” (and later admitting he regretted it after a drink or two).
As the debate rages on, one thing’s for sure: the battle for London's roads is far from over.
