Interesting! The new Audi Q2 is the latest, most stylish, most technically advanced version of this compact sports-utility vehicle and available from October 2020 in the United Kingdom. Primary changes compared to its predecessor include the revised styling, optimised cabin, and superior equipment that includes a feature that lets it steer, accelerate, and brake automatically. Let us therefore take a closer look at this fascinating new vehicle.
Styling
New Audi Q2 styling is purposeful, stylish, and attractive so it has road presence. In fact, the manufacturer is very keen to emphasise that it looks different to its predecessor. The front is ‘more striking’ and wider, it argued. Furthermore, the new rear bumper incorporates a ‘diffuser insert’, there is a revised range of alloy wheels, and an expanded colour pallet. Choices now include: apple green, Manhattan grey, Navarra blue, arrow grey, and turbo blue.
The Q2’s interior has been revised, too. Whereas it is reminiscent of its predecessor – and there is nothing wrong with that – it has new door trim, gear knobs, vents, and seat fabrics. The overall impression is modern, yet restrained.
Director of Audi UK, Andrew Doyle, praised the vehicle’s look. ‘In its styling, the Q2 has always gone against the grain which is part of its appeal’, he said. ‘I am pleased the designers chose to accentuate this facet of its character as part of this update programme. It leaves the Q2 not only looking even sharper and more distinctive, but also feeling more mature and sophisticated’, he concluded.
Engines, gearboxes, all-wheel-drive
The Audi Q2 has a 1.5 litre TFSI petrol engine (at launch). Expect 150PS and 250Nm of torque. Furthermore, it can be teamed with 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission. Two further petrol engines plus two diesels will be available ‘before the end’ of 2020, the manufacturer said. Some will be teamed with all-wheel-drive to improve traction. Furthermore, all will comply with Euro 6 AP emission standards to minimise their impact on the environment.
Trims and equipment
New Audi Q2 trims are: Technik, Sport, S line, Black Edition, and Vorsprung. Unlike its predecessor, all versions have LED headlights to optimise visibility and electric lumbar support. Expect a powered tailgate, too. Higher specified trims add a rear camera that makes it easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces, sports suspension to optimise the handling, and park assist to automatically steer into spaces. However, you still operate your throttle, gearbox, and brakes.
Furthermore, adaptive cruise assist – which is an automatic drive system – is available for the first time on the Audi Q2. It can automatically accelerate, decelerate, and steer to keep the vehicle in lane. Handy on long motorway trips.
Price and availability
The Audi Q2 costs from £23,500 and is available from October 2020.
