Studies indicate that passengers are up to 33% less likely to be involved in accidents if the driver is a woman

Research indicates that female drivers are less likely to be involved in severe crashes than male drivers.

If you want to get home safely, opting for a female driver might be your best bet, according to recent research.

Studies indicate that passengers are up to 33% less likely to be involved in accidents if the driver is a woman.

Researchers from the University of Granada in Spain, publishing in the journal Heliyon, observed that female drivers are typically involved in less severe crashes compared to male drivers.

Their analysis covered 171,230 accidents involving over 400,000 drivers and passengers.

The findings revealed a 28% lower risk of severe injuries in accidents when the driver was female. This risk reduction increased to 33% in single-vehicle incidents.

However, the study also found that women involved in accidents were 23% more likely to be hospitalised.

One possible explanation is that women might be more physically vulnerable to injury.
