From a restored Ford Escort RS2000 to the supercharged Mini ‘Stanley’, four of Hammond’s iconic vehicles, many featured on his shows, are set to be auctioned at Stoneleigh Park this February.

Richard Hammond Car Auction: 4 Iconic Motors Up For Grabs

TL;DR Richard Hammond is selling four personal vehicles at the Iconic Auctioneers Race Retro sale on 21 February 2025. The collection, featuring cars from 'The Smallest Cog' and 'DriveTribe', includes a 304bhp Mini Cooper S 'Stanley', a race-prepared MG B GT, a restored 1979 Ford Escort RS2000 Mk2, and a rare 1933 Riley Alpine Sports Tourer. Estimates range from £10,000 to £30,000, with the auction held at Stoneleigh Park.

In a move set to excite motoring enthusiasts across the UK, television presenter Richard Hammond is auctioning four vehicles from his personal collection. The sale, which features cars with direct links to his TV show and media projects, provides a rare chance for fans and collectors to own a piece of his well-documented automotive history.

The collection is scheduled to go under the hammer at the upcoming Iconic Auctioneers Race Retro sale. As of this month, details confirm the event will take place at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire, with the auction itself set for Saturday, 21st February 2025.

This isn't just a case of a celebrity offloading spare motors. Each vehicle has a story, many of which have played out on screen in Richard Hammond's Workshop or on the popular YouTube channel DriveTribe. The collection is a direct reflection of Hammond's eclectic taste and the restoration work carried out by his Herefordshire-based business, The Smallest Cog.

The Star of the Show: A Restored 1979 Ford Escort RS2000 Mk2

Perhaps the most anticipated lot is the 1979 Ford Escort RS2000 Mk2, a car that has undergone a meticulous restoration at The Smallest Cog. With an official estimate of £25,000 - £30,000, this classic 'Fast Ford' is expected to draw significant attention from collectors.

The team at Hammond's workshop completed a full body restoration and a comprehensive mechanical overhaul, ensuring the car is in pristine condition. Finished in a striking Ford Midnight Blue, this Ford Escort RS2000 Mk2 for sale represents a turn-key classic with impeccable provenance. As an added touch for the winning bidder, the car even comes with a signed Corgi replica.

Pre-War Elegance: The 1933 Riley 14/6 Alpine Sports Tourer

For those with a taste for vintage motoring, a beautiful pre-war Riley Alpine Sports Tourer is also on offer. Hammond acquired this classic back in 2019 and has often been spotted driving it on the country lanes around his Herefordshire home. It's a true classic car enthusiast's dream.

With an estimate of £18,000 - £24,000, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of British motoring history. It's believed only around 200 of these models were ever produced, and this example features distinctive triple bronze-bodied carburettors, making it a standout at any classic car meet.

From the Workshop to the Racetrack: The 1972 MG B GT

Hammond fans will immediately recognise the 1972 MG B GT. Featured in Series 2 of the popular show, this car was transformed from a standard road-going coupé into a dedicated circuit racer by The Smallest Cog team.

Now a proven competitor, Richard Hammond's Workshop MG B GT boasts a powerful engine built by Rick Wood Motorsport and has completed four successful seasons on the UK's historic racing circuit. With an estimate of £15,000 - £20,000, it offers an accessible entry into the world of historic motorsport with genuine celebrity provenance.

'Stanley': The 304bhp DriveTribe Mini Cooper S

The final car is arguably the most famous among a younger generation of fans: the 2006 Mini Cooper S, affectionately nicknamed 'Stanley'. This car was the star of a DriveTribe project series where Hammond's daughter, Izzy, learned the mechanical ropes.

But don't be fooled by its charming backstory; this is a serious performance machine. The DriveTribe Mini Cooper S 'Stanley' is powered by a 1.8-litre Lohen-built supercharged engine, which has been dyno-proven to produce a staggering 304bhp. For safety, it's equipped with a full safety roll-cage. It was most recently seen being driven by Izzy Hammond at the 2025 VSCC Pomeroy Trophy, proving its capability. Its estimate is set between £10,000 and £15,000.

While celebrity-owned cars for sale appear at classic car auctions UK regularly, it's unusual to see a collection with such a transparent and personal history. Each vehicle has been personally owned, driven, and in most cases, restored by the celebrity's own well-known workshop.

For potential bidders, viewing is available in Hall 1 at Stoneleigh Park (postcode CV8 2LG) from Friday, 20th February, through to Sunday, 22nd February 2025. Anyone wishing to bid must register with Iconic Auctioneers ahead of the sale on Saturday, 21st February. This Richard Hammond car auction is shaping up to be a major event in the 2025 motoring calendar.
