We compare the Omoda 7, Jaecoo 7, and Chery Tiggo 7 in design, space, performance, and price.

If you’re seeing triple, you’re not imagining things. The Omoda 7, Jaecoo 7, and Chery Tiggo 7 are all closely related under the skin - they’re all built by Chery, the Chinese car giant. Like Volkswagen Group uses Skoda and Audi to target different buyers, Chery has created Omoda for sportier, city-focused buyers, and Jaecoo for those seeking rugged style.

It may take UK buyers a while to get familiar with these brands, but it’s worth the effort. Chery’s Tiggo 8 was recently named our Car of the Year, so the smaller Tiggo 7 deserves a closer look.

These three SUVs share one big advantage: value. For the money, you get more car from Chery and its sub-brands than almost any other brand. The question is, which one is right for you?

Design

All three SUVs are neat, if not groundbreaking. Chinese brands are still catching up on style compared to Europe’s best.

  • Omoda 7: The sleekest of the trio, with a sloping nose and steep rear window. Think urban dynamism - almost Lexus-like.
  • Jaecoo 7: Rugged and upright, it hints at adventure. Its front end has a Range Rover vibe.
  • Chery Tiggo 7: Somewhere in between, with a prominent grille but not as imposing as the Jaecoo.

If you want the most commanding presence, the Jaecoo 7 edges it, with hints of Range Rover flair.

Interior and Practicality

Inside, all three SUVs are impressive for the price. Space is generous, and the cabins feel modern and well finished. Large touchscreens dominate the dashboards:

  • Omoda: 15.6 inches
  • Jaecoo: 13.2 or 14.8 inches depending on spec
  • Chery: 12.3 inches

Boot space is similar: room for four suitcases in the Chery and Jaecoo, with the Omoda slightly larger. Interiors feel far from budget; there’s no cheap, plasticky feel.

For infotainment and luggage capacity, the Omoda 7 just takes this round.

Performance and Driver Appeal

All three offer petrol and plug-in hybrid options. Plug-in hybrids cost more upfront but are worth it the tech is mature and capable.

  • Range: 56 miles on a full charge for the hybrids
  • Power: 204hp, 0-62mph in ~8.5 seconds

The Jaecoo, despite being the oldest model in the UK, has an unsettled ride and light steering. Based on the Tiggo 8’s performance, the Chery Tiggo 7 is likely the most refined to drive, but full test drives will confirm this.

Price and Equipment

All three brands are known for value:

  • Omoda 7: From £29,915
  • Jaecoo 7: From £30,115
  • Chery Tiggo 7: From £24,995

Entry-level models are well equipped: dual-zone climate, Sony six-speaker stereo, adaptive cruise, and faux-leather seats. For plug-in hybrids:

  • Omoda: from £32,000
  • Jaecoo: from £35,165
  • Chery: from £29,995

If price and standard kit are top priorities, the Chery Tiggo 7 wins.

Verdict

We’ll need a full drive of the Omoda 7 and Tiggo 7 to be definitive. But judging by the Tiggo 8’s award-winning performance and the Tiggo 7’s low price, the Chery Tiggo 7 looks like the pick of this trio - offering the best value without compromising too much on style, space, or technology.
