This wild electric remake of the R5 Turbo delivers over 500bhp and 0–62mph in under 3.5 seconds.

A Hot Hatch Like No Other: The Turbo 3E Lands at £135,000

Renault has confirmed what we all suspected: the new Renault 5 Turbo 3E, an electric tribute to the legendary hot hatch of the 1980s, will start from a jaw-dropping £135,000.

But for those lucky enough to get one, this is no ordinary Renault – this is a full-blown, electric mini-supercar.

Built in strictly limited numbers – just 1,980 units, as a nod to the original 1980 R5 Turbo – the 3E takes the spirit of its rally-bred predecessor and turns the volume right up.

This isn’t just a nostalgic nod; it’s a reinvention with serious firepower.

Underneath its aggressive bodywork sits a carbon fibre frame with dual rear in-wheel motors powered by a 70kWh battery.

The result? A staggering 536bhp – more than Renault originally teased – and 0-62mph in under 3.5 seconds. That’s more power than any road car Renault has ever made.

It also features 800V architecture, meaning ultra-fast charging is part of the package: from 15 to 80% in just 15 minutes using a 350kW charger.

Perfect time to catch your breath – or change tyres, because this car is built to shred rubber.

And it’s not just about performance. Buyers will be able to customise their Turbo 3E in collaboration with Renault’s design team, choosing everything from paint schemes to dashboard finishes.

Orders open now, and the brand will reach out to successful customers in 2026 to begin the bespoke design process.

Yes, £135,000 is a serious price tag. But for a zero-emissions, limited-run powerhouse that blends 80s iconography with cutting-edge performance, it might just be worth it.

Renault’s most powerful road car ever is heading to Europe, the UK, Japan, Australia, Turkey and the Middle East – and it’s going to turn heads wherever it goes.
