The Grande Panda 4x4 is back — and it’s cooler than ever

Fiat has revealed a rugged 4x4 concept version of the new Grande Panda, inspired by the iconic ‘80s original. Here’s what we know so far about its retro looks, hybrid power, and production potential.

The new Fiat Grande Panda is basically a modern love letter to the boxy, iconic Panda 4x4 from the '80s — and we’re totally here for it. It’s bold, quirky, and full of retro charm.

Now for the catch: this beefed-up Grande Panda 4x4 you’re looking at is just a concept for now. But don’t be too disappointed — Fiat has dropped some strong hints that a real off-road version could happen, especially if enough people shout about it. There’s solid heritage behind it too: Fiat’s made three Panda 4x4s before, and rival brands like Renault are clearly toying with similar ideas (check out their R4 Savane 4x4 concept).

If it makes it to production, the Grande Panda 4x4 would be the first four-wheel-drive car on Stellantis’s Smart Car platform — the same one used for the Citroen C3 and Vauxhall Frontera. It’d likely get a hybrid setup with an electric motor on the back axle for that proper AWD punch, similar to what Jeep’s done with the Avenger 4xe. Fiat hasn’t spilled the full spec list yet, but we’re betting it shares a lot with that model, including the 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine.

Design-wise, Fiat's gone all in. The concept gets cool pixel-style spotlights on the front and roof, rugged roof rails (with a full-size spare up top!), chunky all-terrain tyres on beige steel wheels, and loads of retro graphics and 4x4 badges. Add fake skid plates and some classic black cladding, and you've got a city car that looks ready for a mountain pass.

Fingers crossed this funky little off-roader becomes a real thing — it’s got serious personality and all the right throwback vibes.
