It’s new Ferrari day, and this time the spotlight is on the Ferrari Amalfi Spider - a convertible version of the brand’s entry-level grand tourer.
Named after Italy’s famous Amalfi Coast, the Spider is designed for relaxed open-top driving in warm weather. It’s essentially a heavily updated version of the Roma, but with a folding fabric roof that lets you enjoy the engine and the scenery at the same time.
Classic Ferrari layout
Under the bonnet sits a 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8, mounted at the front but pushed back in the chassis for better balance. Power goes to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
The engine produces 631bhp, giving the Spider serious performance to match its relaxed, coastal theme.
Quick roof, open-air driving
The soft-top roof can open or close in 13.5 seconds at speeds of up to 37mph. When raised, Ferrari says the five-layer fabric roof provides sound insulation similar to a retractable hard-top system.
With the roof down, the Amalfi Spider looks particularly striking, although some may still prefer the elegant shape of the original Roma.
Practical for a supercar
Ferrari designed the Spider so that it keeps the same proportions as the coupe version.
The roof itself is only 220mm thick, which helps preserve luggage space:
- 255 litres with the roof closed
- 172 litres with the roof folded away
That means there’s still room for bags if you’re planning a weekend trip along the coast.
Technology and performance
The Amalfi Spider shares most of its hardware with the coupe. That includes:
- Brake-by-wire braking system
- Active aerodynamic features
- Ferrari’s Side Slip Control 6.1 handling system
- A redesigned cockpit with proper physical buttons
Performance remains impressive for a convertible:
- 0–62mph: 3.3 seconds
- Top speed: 198mph
The Spider weighs 1,556kg, which is 86kg more than the coupe, mainly due to the roof mechanism and added structural reinforcement.
