The expansion of smart motorways across the UK was supposed to make commuting easier and intelligently help traffic flow in and out of busy areas.
There have been some well publicised safety mishaps with the roll outs – which are yet to be fully resolved – and the jury is still very much out on whether smart motorways are the future.
In many instances, smart motorways have meant the adoption of four lanes in exchange for losing the hard shoulder. Unfortunately, not all road users allow the four lanes to the fully utilised.
For many, it has become second nature to just idle in the third lane, leaving not one, but two free lanes of traffic inside them.
It actually has become a bit of a rarity to see a car in lane one, almost as if they shouldn’t be there.
So we want to ask you, where does middle lane hogging rank on your list of motoring gripes. Do you do it, or are you outraged about it? Let us know in the comments below.
