How do you pay tribute to Southern California? With a giant, aerodynamically refined speed machine.
General Motors honors Southern California with this bold new hypercar concept: the California Corvette. It’s a daring reinterpretation of the iconic Corvette, designed by GM’s Advanced Design studio in Pasadena, blending timeless heritage with a distinctly futuristic, SoCal vibe.
Described as a unique “one-of-one” hypercar, it draws inspiration from racing simulators and classic Corvettes. It’s impressively wide - even broader than a Range Rover — featuring a menacing, narrow front that tapers into an ultra-low, aerodynamic profile. Southern California’s spirit has never looked so fierce.
The rear end is dominated by massive diffuser tunnels channeling airflow beneath the car, while the sides appear stripped down to reveal mechanical elements, giving the car a powerful, aggressive stance.
As a concept celebrating the Golden State, it’s fully electric, though specific power details remain under wraps. GM shared that it uses a “T-shape prismatic battery pack,” which lowers the seating position and optimises airflow around the chassis - something even F1 teams could admire.
The car also transforms: a single-piece canopy hinged at the front converts it from a coupe into an open-air track car. Given its low, wide, aggressive form, it seems best suited for the racetrack.
“The California Corvette concept exemplifies forward-thinking design,” said Bryan Nesbitt, GM’s global design VP. “We invited multiple GM studios to imagine Corvette-inspired hypercars. Our UK studio unveiled the first in March. Now, the California team has delivered a complementary vision that honors Corvette’s legendary performance with their unique style.”
This is the second Corvette concept after the bold British design, with a third expected soon.
