It’s believed to be at least the fourth case of a car falling off the car park boundary in the last few years

Car ‘accidentally’ leaves car park and tumbles down cliff

A car has been pictured upside down on a cliff face after it 'accidentally left the car park'.

The driver unknowingly drove off the edge of the car park with seemingly no barriers and only extremely minor kerbs to prevent them going further.

The bizarre incident took place in the early hours of the morning earlier this month, but due to HM Coastguard's social media silence following the Queen’s death, news has only just filtered out.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard Mumbles said:

"Mumbles Coastguard were paged at 3.21am on September 12th to assist South Wales Police Swansea and Neath Port Talbot with a vehicle over the cliff at Bracelet Bay."

The single occupant of the car was miraculously able to walk away from the incident after only receiving relatively minor assistance to exit the vehicle.

Coastguard volunteers have asked local councillors if anti-climb curb stones should now be fitted to prevent further incidents.

The volunteers said there have been "over four occurrences of cars crossing the pavement and leaving the car park requiring intervention" and also noted “The higher curb height would also protect the footpath from overhanging vehicles allowing better pushchair and disabled access on the narrow pavement.

"It would be worth considering more dropped curb locations to allow access and egress from the pavement for the above."
