The UK cities that have, or will have, Clean Air Zones in 2022 as local authorities try to minimise pollution.

Clean Air Zones for 2022: live now and coming soon

Clean Air, Low Emission, and Zero Emission Zones have become increasingly common and more will launch in 2022 in the United Kingdom. The zones span polluted city centres and drivers pay to enter in vehicles that cannot meet minimum emission standards. In theory, this encourages them to switch to more eco-friendly models.

Bath Clean Air Zone: live now

In Bath a daily charge applies to taxis, private hire vehicles, light goods vehicles, buses, coaches, heavy goods vehicles, and some camper vans that cannot meet the specified emission standards.

Portsmouth Clean Air Zone: live now

In Portsmouth non-compliant taxis, private hire vehicles, buses, coaches, and heavy goods vehicles incur a charge.

London Ultra Low Emission Zone: live now

In London cars, motorcycles, vans, specialist vehicles up to and including 3.5 tonnes, and minibuses up to and including 5 tonnes incur a charge if they cannot meet the required emission standards.

Birmingham Clean Air Zone: live now

In Birmingham drivers pay if their cars, taxis, buses, coaches, light goods vehicles, and heavy goods vehicles pollute excessively.

Oxford Zero Emission Zone: February 2022

In Oxford all petrol, diesel, and hybrid vehicles will incur a charge irrespective of which emission regulations they meet.

Bradford Clean Air Zone: spring 2022

In Bradford charges will apply to non-compliant taxis, private hire vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, buses, coaches, light goods vehicles, and minibuses.

Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee: spring 2022

Drivers in non-compliant cars, light goods vehicles, buses, coaches, and heavy goods vehicles will get a fixed penality notice for entering the zones once the initial grace periods have expired.

Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone: May 30th 2022

In Greater Manchester light goods vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, taxis, private hire vehicles, buses, coaches, and motorhomes will incur a charge if they do not meet the required emission standards.

Bristol Clean Air Zone: summer 2022

In Bristol charges will apply to non-compliant cars, taxis, light goods vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, buses, and coaches.

Newcastle Clean Air Zone: July 2022

In Newcastle motorists with non-compliant taxis, vans, buses, coaches, and heavy goods vehicles will be charged.

Sheffield Clean Air Zone: late 2022

In Sheffield taxis, private hire vehicles, light goods vehicles, coaches, buses, and heavy goods vehicles will incur a charge if they cannot meet the necessary emission standards.
